Job title: FareShare Project Manager
Reporting to: National Operations Manager
Date: January 2010
Aim
To manage and ensure the ongoing success and development of the FareShare Community Food franchise in Merseyside.
Dimensions
Line management responsibility for up to 2 members of staff Overall responsibility for up to 100 volunteers (usually a maximum of 10
on any particular shift) Budget responsibility for the project to a maximum of £200,000 per
annum Recruit and support a network of approximately 100 Community food
network members and a minimum of 20 local food suppliers
Salary
£23, 250 - £26,613 per annum
Circumstances
Working hours will be 37.5 per week, variable depending upon operational needs. This may include some evening and weekend working
Jobholder must hold, or be willing to gain, Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate
Jobholder must hold, or be willing to gain, a recognised health and safety qualification for dealing with health and safety within a warehouse/food distribution operation
Jobholder must be hold, or be willing to gain, a forklift truck licence
Principal Accountabilities
Management Manage and develop the FareShare Merseyside project, within the
guidelines of FareShare National policies and procedures and the needs of the local community.
To develop relevant additional policies and procedures for the project and to ensure that all staff, volunteers, donors, recipients and visitors adhere to them as appropriate
To be responsible for the recruitment, management, training and development of staff and volunteers within the project
Working with other support staff and partners, ensure that all shifts are planned, controlled and filled, and to be prepared to work at short notice providing cover for shifts on occasion, including driving the van or navigating as required by the operation
Manage the FareShare Merseyside office and develop and monitor office systems, including the FareShare database
To manage the financial budget for the project and the petty cash system To be responsible for the fundraising for the FareShare Merseyside
operation Be responsible for the health & safety and security of the project,
including building, vehicles, staff and volunteers, working to update appropriate risk assessments where necessary
To ensure the service is delivered in accordance with FareShare Equal Opportunities Policy
To ensure that the vans used by FareShare Merseyside are roadworthy and legal (taxed, insured etc) and to ensure there is payment of appropriate congestion charges and tolls
Communications To develop and maintain good relations and communications with food
donors and recipient projects To liaise effectively with FareShare National and other organisations at
local and national level as appropriate To monitor and evaluate the projects activities and make regular reports
to the FareShare National team and to Chapter 1, the FareShare Merseyside franchise partner, as required
To promote the project positively and proactively including representing FareShare Merseyside in communication with the media and in making representation to existing and potential funders
To maximise networking opportunities where apropriate
Other To carry out any other duties which may be necessary in the light of the
main purpose of the job
Person Specification
Essential Desirable Willing to train At least 2 years experience of working in one or more of the following areas: project management, food distribution, warehousing operation
Experience of taking responsibility for health and safety issues within a food distribution and/or warehousing operation.
Willing to train to Level II food hygiene qualification within 6 months of being appointed
Experience of supervising, training and managing staff
Experience in the management and training of volunteers and, ideally, experience of working as a volunteer
Willing to train to a Health and Safety qualification
Problem solver and competent decision maker
Experience of working in highly regulated environment and demonstrable risk assessment capabilities
Willing to train for a forklift truck licence
Team player able to motivate and develop people through positive approaches and experience of working with people who require support
Training skills Experience of food preparation and storage
Presentation skills
