JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Senior Programme OfficerFull time (35 hours a week)Permanent contract£30,000 - £35,000 per annum
Job Purpose: The Senior Programme Officer is responsible for leading and coordinating Peace Direct’s Atrocity Prevention Fund and supporting the effective functioning of Peace Direct’s International Programmes.
Reporting to: Head of International Programmes
Key TasksOverall management of Atrocity Prevention Fund
Lead on and oversee the identification, administration, support, funding, monitoring and evaluation of small grants
Work closely with Peace Direct’s Local Peacebuilding Experts and local partners to ensure effective local peacebuilding programmes are supported by the Fund
Project and financial management of Peace Direct’s Atrocity Prevention Fund Lead in the set-up, maintenance and use of systems and processes for administering
and monitoring small grants Work closely with two of Peace Direct’s Programme Officers working directly with
Local Peacebuilding Experts and partners to oversee the Atrocity Prevention Fund Oversee all financial management of the small grants, as well as provide support on
financial management and reporting to grantees Work closely with the Finance and Compliance Officer to ensure flexible yet reliable
processes for assessing grantees’ effectiveness, credibility and accountability Oversee all elements of risk management, compliance and reporting for the Atrocity
Prevention Fund
Small grants programme development and fundraising
Support the development of the Atrocity Prevention Fund, as well as other participatory grant-making programmes, under the supervision of the Head of International Programmes
Pursue fundraising opportunities and write funding proposals, working closely with the Head of Programme Development, in order to expand the small grants programme in line with Peace Direct’s strategy
Contribute to the development of Peace Direct’s innovative granting programmes Contribute to Peace Direct’s leadership in innovative and flexible support to local
peacebuilders Provide advice and support to Peace Direct’s other programmes, in particular
programmes which involve small granting and/or atrocity prevention Ensure that Peace Direct is up to date with the latest developments in participatory
and flexible grant making Spearhead and develop expertise on pioneering mechanisms for flexible and
effective support to local peacebuilders Ensure that Peace Direct is at the forefront of learning in relation to atrocity
prevention
Support to Peace Direct’s International Programmes Help the International Programmes team to continuously improve its systems,
administrative processes and communication with partners and other Peace Direct departments
Work closely with the International Programmes Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor to monitor and learn from the Atrocity Prevention Fund and ensure lessons are captured and disseminated among partners and across the organisation
Organisational Learning Work with colleagues to promote organisational learning Lead on learning around and evaluation of the Atrocity Prevention Fund Participate in team learning activities
Internal Relations Work very closely with Peace Direct staff to help deliver its strategy Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor and the Policy &
Research team to embed learning from the Atrocity Prevention Fund into advocacy and research efforts, and ensure that lessons from research inform programmes
Support Peace Direct’s Fundraising and Communications team with the collection of content and case studies relating to the Atrocity Prevention Fund
Perform any other tasks as directed by the Head of International Programmes
Travel Conduct occasional overseas visits on Peace Direct’s business (approx. three trips
per year) Occasional travel in the UK to represent Peace Direct’s externally
Person Specification
Essential: At least four years’ relevant experience supporting locally led peacebuilding,
development or crisis response Experience of managing large complex projects Experience of working with local partners in developing countries
Degree in a relevant subject (International Relations, Peace & Conflict/Security, International Development etc), or equivalent experience
Fluent in written and spoken English Excellent writing skills Excellent organisational skills Excellent budget/financial management skills Ability to think creatively and take decisions with minimal supervision Excellent team working skills A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel A passion for peacebuilding and a commitment to supporting local peacebuilders Willingness to travel to conflict affected countries
Desirable: Experience working on flexible funding/participatory grant-making mechanisms
(highly desirable) Ability to speak French (highly desirable) Ability to speak Arabic Line management experience Experience of training others
