Although the Church facilities, including Adoration Chapel are not open to the

public at this time, we will live-stream all our Masses.

For Confessions: Confessions in the Diocese of Laredo are suspended until

further notice. For now we can still do a good act of contrition, seek to gain

indulgences, and of course avoid sin.

The church office will continue to have staff answering the phone during

regular office hours, but the office will be closed to the public. Sunday

bulletins will be available in a box in front of the church, or online at our

website. Please monitor our website www.stpatricklaredo.org for more

announcements. Let us take to heart these beautiful words of St. Padre Pio:

"Pray, hope and don't worry." God is good all the time.”

Staying Close to God Even While Staying at Home I am sure we have either read or seen many different reports about the pandemic we are now facing, and we are also aware of the stay-at-home order we have in the city of Laredo. During this time some parents might be homeschooling their children (some for the first time), some parents are watching movies and television shows with their children, others are playing video games or staying up late with their children, and so on. Others might be very worried about this present situation. Bishop James Tamayo writes, in “Finding Hope in the Midst

of Fear,” that “As people of faith entering the most sacred time we call Holy Week, we have the opportunity to reflect on the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord. Meditating on Jesus’ agony and uniting our sufferings with His, along with our brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith who will celebrate the feast of the Passover, we can find the strength to carry the weight of our own personal crosses.” We are called to live out our Christian life at all times, even during a stay-at-home order. Although we are not now able to come together as a community to celebrate Mass, there are many good spiritual tools and resources we can use to remind us of our Christian hope. The website www.formed.org provides many movies, programs, and books about our Catholic faith. Maybe you can come together with those you live with and commit to watching one religious movie or listen to one religious program every evening. Moreover, there is CatholicTv.org and www.ewtn.com and www.catholic.com which also offer rich resources about our faith. At Saint Patrick, we are providing a live stream of the Masses every day of the week, and the Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration from Monday through Saturday. Simply go to stpatricklaredo.org and click on Facebook or YouTube icons on the top left of the website. I understand many of you might be working from home or some might have to report to work, or you are homeschooling your children. Nevertheless, let us continue with our Christian teaching and faith. Let us “Trust in the Lord with all our heart.” (Proverbs 3:5). We can do this by reading the Word of God together as a family on a daily basis, possibly before you go to work or in the evenings. We can also pray together the Divine Chaplet every day at 3:00 p.m. I understand many of us might not be able to practice the same traditions we have every year during the Easter season, but we can always start a new tradition. Bishop Tamayo ends his statement with the following, “Unite with your families and pray. Permanecer cerca de Dios aun estando en casa

Estoy seguro de que hemos leído o visto muchos artículos y escuchado muchos reportajes de noticias sobre la pandemia que enfrentamos durante estos tiempos difíciles. Estoy seguro de que también estamos conscientes de la ordenanza en la ciudad de Laredo de quedarnos en casa. Durante esta orden de quedarse en casa, tal vez algunos padres están educando en casa a sus hijos, algunos padres probablemente están viendo películas y programas de televisión con sus hijos, otros probablemente están jugando videojuegos o quedándose despiertos hasta tarde con

sus hijos, etc. Otros probablemente están muy preocupados por su situación actual. Afortunadamente, el obispo Tamayo escribe, en "Encontrando Esperanza En Medio Del Miedo" que, "como personas de fe entrando en el tiempo más sagrado que llamamos Semana Santa, tenemos la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre la Pasión, Muerte y Resurrección de Nuestro Señor. Meditando en la agonía de Jesús y uniendo nuestros sufrimientos con los Suyos, junto con nuestros hermanos y hermanas de la fe judía que celebrarán la fiesta de la Pascua, podemos encontrar la fuerza para llevar el peso de nuestras cruces personales". Como cristianos, estamos llamados a vivir nuestra vida cristiana y el evangelio en todo momento, incluso durante la ordenanza de quedarnos en casa. Aunque durante este tiempo no podemos unirnos como comunidad para celebrar la Misa juntos, existen muchas herramientas y recursos espirituales vitales que podemos usar para recordarnos de nuestra esperanza cristiana.

Podemos aprovechar este tiempo para aprender más sobre nuestra fe, tenemos las siguientes fuentes: www.formed.org, que ofrece muchas películas, programas y libros sobre nuestra fe católica. ¿Tal vez como familia o con la gente con la que vivimos, todos nosotros podemos unirnos y comprometernos a ver una película religiosa o escuchar uno o más programas religiosos todas las noches?, además, esta www.CatholicTv.org, o www.ewtn.com, o www.catholic.com que también ofrecen buenos recursos sobre nuestra fe. Además, en Saint Patrick también contamos con transmisión en vivo diarimente de las Misas y la Hora Santa. Simplemente vayan a stpatricklaredo.org y hagan clic en los iconos de Facebook, o YouTube en la esquina a la izquierda del sitio web. New Scam for “$1,200 Check” There have recently been reports of attempted scams in which the caller claims to be from the government,

“verifying information in order to send your $1,200 Coronavirus check.” The scammer may ask for your social security number, bank account number, birthdate, address and other important information in order to steal money from you or to steal your identity. In fact, the government already has the information needed if you filed a tax return last year, or if you are receiving social security. The government is NOT calling or texting or e-mailing people to get this information. Never give your sensitive information to anybody who calls you! We also hear reports of parishioners receiving messages claiming to be from one of the priests or from the bishop, asking for the person to buy gift cards and to send a picture of the gift card numbers “to help somebody in the hospital” or for some other “urgent need.” These scams sometimes sound genuine, but do not fall for them!

Nueva estafa por el "cheque de $ 1,200" Recientemente ha habido informes de intentos de estafas en los que la persona que llama afirma ser del gobierno, "pidiendo verificar información para enviarle su cheque de Coronavirus por $ 1,200". Estas estafas a veces suenan genuinas, ¡pero no caigan en la trampa!

Continuación, página #8 Entiendo que muchos de nosotros quizás no podemos practicar las mismas tradiciones que tenemos todos los años durante el tiempo de Pascua, pero eso no significa que no podamos comenzar con tradiciones nuevas, tal vez ver películas católicas con nuestras familias todas las noches o todos los fines de semanas pueden convertirse en una tradición familiar. El obispo Tamayo termina su declaración con lo siguiente: “Únete con tu familia y reza. Dios escucha nuestras oraciones ... Encuéntralo orando en silencio y en las expresiones de fe que se encuentran en las redes sociales ". Recemos por todas aquellas personas que conocemos que han sido infectadas con COVID-19, recemos por todos aquellos que han perdido a un ser querido debido a complicaciones de COVID-19, recemos por el descanso de las almas de los que han muerto durante este tiempo, y recemos por el final de COVID-19. ¡Que Dios los bendiga!
