Year 7 – Home Learning Activities PE w/b 18 th May
Below is the range of tasks that you should study over the next 2 weeks. Do the activities during the same lesson time slot that you have on your timetable. Each lessons worth of
tasks should take you approximately 45 minutes. Before you start make sure that you have all the things that you will need.

Complete the three challenges set out in Lesson 1 below. All are relating to athletics. Remember to record your scores on a sheet of paper.
2. Athletics - jumping
Cones or objects to mark your jumps, measuring tape.
Complete the two challenges set out in Lesson 2 below.
3. Athletics - throwing
You will need a large space for this lesson (such as a park). 3 pairs of socks or tennis ball. Frisbee. Cones or objects to mark your throws, measuring tape.

Lesson 1Challenge 1 - Sprinting
What position is most effective for a sprint start?
Ask someone at home to time you and say GO! Start in the positions identified below and see which one allows you to run 10m quickest. Record your times.

Lesson 2Challenge 1 – Long Jump
Standing Long Jump – How far can you jump?
Following the steps in the table, log how far you can jump during each stage. Take 3 jumps in each box and record your best score.If you are unable to measure it with a tape measure, use objects to mark the length of each jump and record which jump was most effective.

Challenge 2 – Beat the World Record
World Records:Men: Mike Powell 8.95 m (29 ft 4 1⁄4 in) (1991)Women: Galina Chistyakova 7.52 m (24 ft 8 in) (1988)
Using the technique, you deem correct, see how many jumps it would take you to break the world record. Tip – mark out with an object the approx. length of the world record (you might need an adult to help you). Then see how many jumps it takes you to pass the mark.

Lesson 3Challenge 1 – Shot Put
Roll up 3 pairs of socks into a ball, or a tennis ball. There are 2 techniques to the shot put, they are the glide technique and the spin technique. Making sure in both techniques you push the ‘Shot Put’ from your neck, not throw.Perform each throwing technique 3 times and log your results.

Challenge 2 – Discus (you will require a frisbee)
1. What is the difference between the grip when holding a discus and a frisbee?

Challenge 3
Can you throw your frisbee (or a safe alternative) like a discus?1. HOLDING
Place the throwing hand on top of the Frisbee. Spread the fingers evenly but not stretched. Fingertips curling over the rim of the frisbee. Do not grip the frisbee.
2. PREPARATION Stand side on with the upper body facing away from the direction of the throw. Chin, knee, toe all in line. Practice swinging frisbee going low to high.
3. RELEASE Transfer weight from back foot to front foot. Release the frisbee at shoulder height with speed, high into the sky and follow
through. Frisbee is released out of the forefinger.
