Material

Glass - transparency

The glass is used on north and south facade, featuring the transparency and reflectivity.

Page 17: Jeff lai 2016.6

Concrete - solidityConcrete is used on masses, roofs and some interior furnitures, expressing solidity and density.

Alternating materials

The lightness of glass and the density of concrete are continuously being juxtaposed and syncopated in alternating roles, creating a dynamic sequence of enclosure and exposure.

Glass and concrete, overlap each other and change the positions in the building.

Curtain wall

Creating the relationship between interior and exterior, natural and artificial.

When the interior is illuminated from within at night, the space is visually contained and isolated in contrast to the darkness of the landscape.

In the daytime, the curtain wall reflects the surrounding forests on thesouth facade, tracing texture and color onto the surface and visually dissolving the form into the landscape.

Analyzing Diagram

There are four types of spaces in Mobius house, which are defineded by the proportion of materials. From the concretemass to the space with glass outershell, the transparency increases and the privacy decreaces.

Conceptual Model

Model A

Model B

Model C

Four types of spaces in differnet proportion of the glass and concrete.

The form is desided by circulations, which are haphazardly lining in space and sometimes overlap each other.

Using concrete and glass to construct a series of masses.

We can some overlappedspaces in different materials.

Page 39: Jeff lai 2016.6

Model D

Model E

Model F

Alike to model C, using vertical components to surround and dividedifferent spaces.

Start to put in someplanes in small pieces.

Construct a complete model with circulations and masses as a prototype of the final model.

Page 40: Jeff lai 2016.6

Final Model

Stack the masses in differentheight, trying to mix a sequenceof spaces in a group.

As the mass moves foward or backward; upward or downward, the group shows a interesting rythemin the space.

Page 41: Jeff lai 2016.6

The masses are connectedby a indirect route in center, which is covered with glassoutershell and also serve asa path.

Some spaces are constructedwith double layer of walls, providing appropriate privacyand transparency.

On the south facade, we can see the masses in different materials stacking closely, which strikes a great balancein the space.

Canon

Pomp and Circumstance MarchesThe march No.1 is featured for the encouraging sections of music.

Original music

I choose some sections from each music to mix into a new music, and try to overlap each part on them to create an effect that soundslike lots of music playing at the same time.

Stacking Music

A harmonious music that can virtually soothe ourweary minds.
