Irish blended whiskey contains both grain whiskey and either malt or single pot still whiskey (sometimes all three are blended together). It was with the introduction of the Coffey still and the option to use less expensive grain spirit that blended whiskeys became possible, available and popular. Blended whiskeys are less expensive and milder whiskeys than malt whiskey, two attributes that led to the huge popularity of blended whiskey today.

35.5ml which is approximately 1.2 US fluid ounces. Irish Whiskeys marked with an asterix * have been recently discontinued and are only available while limited stocks last.There are many more discontinued and rare Scotch Whiskies also available. Where whiskies are marked as Cask Strength or High Strength, we recommend you try them with the addition of a touch of water.

Pot still whiskey is a style of whiskey that is unique to Ireland. It is whiskey that is made entirely from malted and unmalted barley in copper pot stills. Traditionally this type of whiskey was also known as ‘Pure Pot Still Whiskey’. Midleton is the main distillery in Ireland producing pure pot still whiskey.

Single Malt Whiskey is distilled entirely from malted barley in traditional copper pot stills from a single distillery. In Ireland it is generally distilled three times and peat/turf is usually not used to malt the barley Cooley sometimes follows what is considered by many to be the Scotch tradition by using peat and only distilling twice.

Grain whiskey is distilled in a ‘Coffey still’. Cheaper grains can be used in a Coffey still such as maize and wheat. A small percentage of malted barley (around 15%) is often used to provide the necessary enzymes required to allow the starch in the grain to be converted into fermentable sugars. Grain whiskey has a much lighter taste than malt whiskey
