Ricoh Theta on the Runway
Ricoh ThetaWorld’s first consumer camera able to shoot 360-degree photos
with a single shutter release
The fish-eye lenses on each side of the compact body capture images of
just over 180 degrees, which are stitched together inside the camera
body. Its unique technology enables smooth 360-degree viewing. Setting
itself apart in both its portable size and versatility, the Ricoh Theta also
boasts ease of use: all photos are taken with a single shutter release.
Japan Genki Project 2015 “SUPER ENERGY !!"Produced by Kansai Yamamoto
The “SUPER ENERGY !!” fashion event produced by Kansai Yamamoto, one of the most famous Japanese designers/event
producers, was held in the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from May 12-13. The event had the dual purpose of showing
off Kansai’s latest clothing designs and bringing cheer to the people of Japan. Through Kansai’s love and energy, the event was
a success, attracting a large audience to watch the models and performers on the 100 m long runway. Ricoh contributed to the
success of the event using the Ricoh Theta and Ricoh Event Digital Signage.
Why Theta?
After using the Ricoh Theta at a previous fashion event
in Istanbul, Team Kansai has been interested in the
potential of the Ricoh Theta to surprise and entertain
people with its unique images.
Ricoh worked with the planning team of “SUPER
ENERGY !!” from the early stages, discussing how to
utilize the Ricoh Theta effectively during the event. As
a result of these discussions, Ricoh was asked to
contribute not only the system set-up, but on-site
operational services as well.
How were the pictures taken and displayed?
The pictures were taken by the models as they walked
down the runway during the event. Pictures were
taken backstage as well. Following the show, these
pictures were displayed on three 80-inch screens
at the entrance of the venue.
The vivid atmosphere and unique perspective of
the runway from a model’s point of view were
enhanced by Ricoh Theta’s 360-degree images.
As the images scrolled through the scenes captured
in all directions, many people stopped to watch the displays.

Customer Voice
Blue, yellow, pink, white,
Theta is complete even as
Fashion item.
While our models appeared
on the runway holding
colorful Theta in their hands,
every scene was captured
live from their points of view,
which was then available to
see on the Event Signage
screens. At the climax scene,
audience and performers
were united, clapping hands
together to the rhythm of
traditional Japanese beats,
based on the theme of
"Let’s cheer Japan". This
scene from 360 degrees
looked as if everybody was
physically forming a circle
together. The moment was
perfectly captured and
depicted by the specialty of
Theta, which I am sure
brought a significant
memory to many of us.

Event Digital Signage with 80-inch screens
Dynamic image delivery
Seven digital signage stands with 80-inch screens welcomed the guests at the entrance of the
venue. The signage projected by Ricoh Ultra Short Throw Projectors looked as vivid as LCD
monitors.
One of these stands was set up at the entrance of the museum a week before the event to
function as advertising signage and display information up until the day of the event. The other
stands were located on either side of the passage. Three side-by-side screens on each side
combined into two wide video walls and delivered dynamic images to attract visitors.
Practical as a backdrop
Team Kansai was impressed by the vividness of
Ricoh’s digital signage, and decided to use it as a
backdrop for their press briefing.
Visitors were also drawn to the signage, using it
as the backdrop for impromptu photo sessions or
as a subject in its own right.
Signage Stand
with Ultra Short Throw Projector
Ricoh’s signage stand has an 80-inch big screen and compact
body with a Ricoh Ultra Short Throw Projector inside, enabling
a large projection area with minimal space requirements.
Using special screen customized for sharp angle projection, it
can show a fine contrast image with brightness measuring
3300 lumens.
Customer Voice
Simple and compact, the
Event Signage was perfect
to set up in our venue of
Museum of Contemporary
Art Tokyo. Whilst playing
such clear images and vivid
colors, the Event Signage
simply livened up the
entrance of our venue,
giving a great impact on the
audience when they came
through to see “Super
Energy!!” I hope to continue
to share my experience with
Ricoh and their outstanding
products, to the consumers
and audience.
