On women ordination... On December 11, 2012 yet another Union of Ad-

ventist Churches joined those in North America and

Europe to take a stand on the need to end gender dis-

crimination in ordination. The Norwegian union board

voted the following: “Based on our understanding of

the Word of God as expressed in the Adventist

Church’s 28 fundamental beliefs (especially numbers

7, 12, 14 and 17), we consider it morally and ethically

correct to recognize women’s and men’s service as

Adventist pastors alike.”

The Adventist Church in Norway has essentially put

the General Conference on notice that unless some

opening is provided, it will go ahead with removing

gender discrimination in ordination after the 2015 GC

Session. This is essentially the same position taken by

the Adventist Church in the Netherlands, although a

union conference officer in the Netherlands said that

they might move ahead sooner with ordination of

women in the gospel ministry.

December 6, 2012 a complete list of the members of

the Theology of Ordination Study Committee was

published. The list was organized on September 18,

2012 and it took a couple of months to receive confir-

mation from all the members on their participation.

The Committee will be chaired by the Director of the

Biblical research Institute Dr. Artur Stele. Following is the demographic layout of the Committee. There

are 100 members of the committee, 4 facilitators and 3 GC lead administrators ex officio. From 107 names 81 are men, 26 are women. Ethnic composition is more complicated, as some indi-viduals have a mixed background and live yet on another conti-nent. For example, the Education Director Lisa Beardsley - is of Asian-European but worked and lived most of her career in North America. Should she be listed as European, Asian, or North American white J? So, following categories are somewhat subjec-tive: 49 are North-American white & 17 are European (where do you fit French-Canadian Seminary Dean FortinJ? ) 11 Asian, 9 African, 5 Afro-American, 2 distinctly Caribbean, 13 Hispanic, in-cluding Brazilian representatives.
