Maharatnas, NLC has

emerged as the third Best

Enterprise of 2011. NLC

has already won this

award in the years 2001,

2003, 2007 and 2010.

The Thermal Power Station-I Expansion, known for i ts productivity now bagged National Award for its environment management too. This 420 MW TPS is standing as a testimony for efficiency and registered an incredible Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 88.76% during 2006-2007. Apart from state-of-the-art technology like Distributed Digital C o n t r o l M o n i t o r i n g a n d Information System (DDCMIS) this TPS has eco-friendly power generating system. This Power Plant is a pride and model plant of NLC. With its eco-friendly working atmosphere, lush green belt around the plant area, full of trees and flowering plants, the beauty of the Thermal Plant is being nurtured with utmost care.

On environmental side, this fully automated plant has online Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) monitoring facility and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) analyzers. Additional air firing system is provided in the boiler furnace for controlling NOx emission. Modern ash handling Plant of this Power Station has provision for 100% dry ash utilization and the flyash collected from this system is fully used in cement and flyash brick manufacturing industries. Fly ash is an alternate raw material in brick manufacturing industry, which in turn saves enormous quantity of clay. In the absence of this system, the flyash, an inevitable by-product, when stored in ash ponds causes environmental problem, besides occupying hectares of cultivable lands. By this method of collecting dry ash,

enormous usage of ground water for handling the fly ash is avoided.

In order to identify the best Thermal Power Station, fit for the Union Ministry of Power Award, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) officials inspected and examined TPS-I Expansion site on 13.02.2012. Officials from our Corporate Environment Cell (CEC), the nodel agency for environment management of NLC accompanied with CEA au thor i t i es and p rov ided necessary inputs. CEA was very much impressed with the

environmental management system implemented in TPS-I Expansion and their reviews and assessments validated the Silver Shield Award to TPS-I Expansion, in National Level Environmental Management among coal/lignite based Thermal Power Stations for the Year 2010-11.

In a function held at New Delhi on 22.03.2012, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon'ble Union Minister of Power presented the award to NLC. Shri A.R. Ansari, CMD, NLC and Shri B. Krishnamoorthy, Chief General Manager/TPS-I & Expansion received the award on behalf of NLC. Shri K.C. Venugopal, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Power, Shri P. CMD Message

A.R. ANSARI

With regards

Dear Colleagues,

2011-12, another successful fiscal year has just completed. At the outset, I take this opportunity to share with you my profound pleasure and the sense of satisfaction over the excellent performance that we have shown for the year 2011-12. It is the proud moment for all the Employees of NLC including the Contract workers that their untiring efforts have brought out an all time high production in the history of NLC and set New Benchmarks. I congratulate all the Employees and the Contract workers for their strenuous efforts and contribution for this incredible achievement.

Let us look at the production performance for the year 2011-12.We have exceeded the target on all fronts. I am very much delighted to see the sparkling performance of Thermal Station-II and Mine-II. TPS-II has achieved an ever high generation of 11087.36 Million Units (MU), against an internal target of 10560 MU. Mine-II has shown ever high production of 130.96 Lakh Tonne (LT) of

3Lignite and 828.05 Lakh Cubic Metre (LM ) of Over burden removal against the internal target of 127.50 LT

3and 788 LM respectively.

Thermal Power Station-I and Thermal Power Station-I Expn. have generated 3987.92 MU and 3042.71 MU respectively and it surpassed the internal targets of 3950 MU and 3030 MU. Mine-IA has also surpassed the internal

3targets of OB removal and Lignite production by removing 214.67 LM of OB and produced 28.77LT of Lignite. Mine-I results are comparatively fall short marginally. Though, Barsingsar Lignite Mine has achieved internal target in OB removal, Lignite production target could not be achieved due to the less intake of lignite by linked Power Station.

3Nevertheless, in OB removal, all the Mines put together we have achieved 1651.47 LM showing a growth of 1.10 % with respect to the previous year. In Lignite Production, total production from all the Mines put together stood at 245.91 LT, showing a growth of 6.25 % with respect to the previous year. In Power production also we have generated 18788.59 MU, 907.51 MU more than the previous year and gained a growth of 5.08 %.

With regard to the performance of the new plants, both the units of Barsingsar power plant are now operating satisfactorily and augmented our generation capacity from 2490 to 2740 MW. For the 2X250 MW TPS-II Expansion project, synchronization of Unit-I has already been completed and in process of stabilization for sustained operation to commence the commercial production by June 2012. Erection activities of Unit-II are progressing towards the completion by this year end.

Other projects under consideration, I am very happy to inform that approval from GOI has been obtained for our joint venture company with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (UPRVUNL), 'NUPL' (NLC - UPRVUNL POWER LIMITED), to take up the 3X660MW Coal based Thermal Power Project at Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh. In the Renewable Energy sector, in line with India's strategic plan for the XI/XII Plan period, NLC has also fore rayed into Solar and Wind Energy sector to harness the tremendous potential available. Tendering activities of our maiden venture to establish a 10MW Solar Plant at NEYVELI and Wind Farm Project of 50 MW have already been commenced. Other projects on anvil includes, Re-structuring of Mine –I & Mine- IA to the tune of 1.50 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) capacity, 2.00 MTPA Devangudi Mine Project in Neyveli region and 2.50 MTPA Hadla & Palana Lignite Mine Cum 250MW Barsingsar TPS Expansion Project at Rajasthan.

I am extremely happy to note that our company has been honored with the following prestigious awards.

(1) TPS-I Expn. has bagged the Silver Shield of the National level Environment Award 2010-11, Instituted by Ministry of Power, GOI for the Coal / Lignite based Power Stations.

(2) Best Enterprise Award-2011 (III prize), instituted by WIPS (Forum of Women in Public Sector) in appreciation of our Community Development Initiatives.

(3) Organization with Best HR strategy in line with business Award, instituted by the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), in recognizing the harmonious Industrial Relations is being maintained in NLC.

I am happy to inform that our Annual plan for the year 2012-13 has been approved by GOI and we have signed the MoU with Ministry of Coal and our internal targets have also been fixed.

I wish to emphasize and remind you all that whatever we have achieved so far have not happened on its own but hard earned progressively by our untiring efforts to our developmental goals with the firm commitment, hard work, determination and assertiveness only.

Let us strive forward with the same vigor and spirit to achieve many more laurels to the credit of our beloved Company.

My Best Wishes to all.
