Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time January 28, 2018


Dear Parishioners, The week, we celebrate Catholic Schools week. This week, we reflect on our faith in Christ, nourished by the sacramental life of the Catholic Church. Catholic Spirituality is what makes our school different. At the end of our life’s journey, that is all that really matters. This is what Catholic Education is all about. Catholic Spirituality is rich and complex, but I believe Father Frank DeSiano, a Paulist Priest, sums up very well what we are about at our Catholic School and challenges that we face. The following has been taken from “Awakening Faith, Reconnecting with your Catholic Faith.” “Connection – Spirituality gives a sense of connection between the different parts of our lives. The world’s busiest people, it seems, are found in North America at the start of the twenty-first century. Everyone is busy. Professionals work well over eight hours a day to take care of their medical or legal clients. Blue-collar work-ers often have to put in overtime to help with productivity – or lose their jobs. Children go from school to sports practice to social event, long into the evening. As a result, all our attention is focused outward, on the things that have to be done. We rarely focus inward, catch our breath, and look for peace inside. So spirituality tries to weave together what is inside us with the externals of our lives. Secondly, spirituality is a search for transcendence, a big word that simply means something beyond ourselves. No matter what science and our society tell us, we know we are not made only of flesh and bone. We’re more than just blobs of atom’s and energy. We want to know completely and we want to love beyond measure. We need something more. We do not think life should only “eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die.” We are more than that. When we pray or meditate, when we look for the answers to life’s big questions, when we mourn the deaths of those we love, we are reaching out for something more than just the moments of our lives here and now. Spirituality also means integrity, certain wholesomeness inside us. It’s what helps us live out the values that are most important to us. Modern people have an aversion to hypocrisy –speaking out of both sides of our mouths. We don’t like deceiving or exploiting others, damaging the environment, and other kinds of phoni-ness. When our exterior and our interior don’t match, when our face contradicts the desires of our heart, we feel split and ashamed. Integrity means that we can put our inside and our outside together. Lastly, spirituality means communion with other people and, often, communion with God. People do not want to be isolated or disconnected. Much as we value privacy, too much of it makes for loneliness and illness. We want to strive for our true ideal: to be authentically, with others and before God, a bond of love. Drodzy parafianie,

W tym tygodniu obchodzimy Tydzień Szkół Katolickich. W tym tygodniu zastanawiamy się nad naszą wiarą w Chrystusa, karmioną życiem sakramentalnym Kościoła katolickiego.

Duchowość katolicka jest tym, co wyróżnia naszą szkołę. Pod koniec podróży naszego życia, to tylko będzie naprawdę ważne. Na tym polega edukacja katolicka.

Duchowość katolicka jest bogata i złożona, ale wierzę, że ksiądz Franciszek DeSiano, kapłan Paulin, bardzo dobrze podsumowuje, o co nam chodzi w naszej szkole katolickiej i wyzwania, przed którymi stoimy. Następujące elementy zostały zaczerpnięte z "Przebudzonej wiary, ponownego połączenia z wiarą katolicką".

"Połączenie - Duchowość daje poczucie związku między różnymi częściami naszego życia. Wydaje się, że najbardziej ruchliwych ludzi na świecie można znaleźć w Ameryce Północnej na początku XXI wieku. Wszyscy są zajęci. Specjaliści pracują ponad osiem godzin dziennie, aby zająć się swoimi klientami medycznymi lub prawnymi. Pracownicy fizyczni często muszą pracować nadgodziny, aby pomóc w osi-ągnięciu wydajności - lub stracić pracę. Dzieci idą ze szkoły na trening sportowy lub imprezę towarzyską, aż do wieczora. W rezultacie cała nasza uwaga skierowana jest na zewnątrz, na to, co należy zrobić. Rzadko kon-centrujemy się na wnętrzu, łapiemy oddech i szukamy spokoju w środku. Zatem duchowość próbuje polączyc razem to, co jest w nas z zewnętrznymi sprawami naszego życia.

Po drugie, duchowość jest poszukiwaniem transcendencji, wielkiego słowa, które po prostu oznacza coś poza nami. Bez względu na to, co mówią nam nauka i nasze społeczeństwo, wiemy, że nie jesteśmy stworzeni tylko z ciała i kości. Jesteśmy czymś więcej niż zwykłymi cząstkami atomu i energii. Chcemy wiedzieć całkowicie i chcemy kochać ponad miarę. Potrzebujemy czegoś więcej. Nie uważamy, że życie to tylko "jeść, pić i być wesołym, bo jutro możemy umrzeć." Jesteśmy czymś więcej. Kiedy modlimy się lub medytujemy, gdy szu-kamy odpowiedzi na wielkie pytania życiowe, kiedy opłakujemy śmierć tych, których kochamy, sięgamy po coś więcej niż tylko momenty naszego życia tu i teraz.

Duchowość oznacza również integralność, pewną całość w nas. To pomaga nam realizować wartości, które są dla nas najważniejsze. Współcześni ludzie mają awersję do hipokryzji - mówienia z obu stron naszych ust. Nie lubimy oszukiwać lub wykorzystywać innych, niszcząc środowisko czy innych rodzajów fałszu. Kiedy nasze wnętrze i nasza zewnętrznosc nie pasują do siebie, gdy nasza twarz jest sprzeczna z pragnieniami naszego ser-ca, czujemy się rozdwojeni i zawstydzeni. Uczciwość oznacza, że możemy umieścić nasze wnętrze i nasza zewnętrzność razem.

Wreszcie duchowość oznacza komunię z innymi ludźmi i często komunię z Bogiem. Ludzie nie chcą być izolowani lub odłączeni. Tak jak cenimy sobie prywatność, zbyt wiele z nich powoduje samotność i choroby. Chcemy dążyć do naszego prawdziwego ideału: być autentycznym, z innymi i przed Bogiem, z więzią miłości.

W dzisiejszej Ewangelii czytamy, że ponieważ Jezus przemawiał z autorytetem, jego reputacja rozeszła się po całym regionie Galilei. Jako jego uczniowie możemy ró-wnież mówić z autorytetem, kiedy przemieniamy naszą wiarę w działanie, pomagając biednym i cierpiącym.

W ubiegłym miesiącu, dzięki swoim darom, Towarzyst-wo św. Wincentego a Paulo było w stanie dostarczyć 48,50 dolarów na czynsz, 515,00 dolarów w ramach po-mocy indywidualnych, 200 000 dolarów w ramach współpracy partnerskiej z St. Turibius, 2 900 dolarów - program na prezenty świąteczne i 1025,00 dolarów w kartach podarunkowych. Over the prior 12 years our parish has already raised over $221,000 which helped to save 227 babies, who are now living out their lives amongst us. Many of them in turn will have chil-dren of their own. Continuing in the spirit of Christmas, let our parishioners of all ages, in-cluding the children, work together to save even more little lives. Please take one bottle per family. Extras will be available in the back of the church the next couple of weekends if you fill up your first one. Thank you for participating in this worthy cause. Please return the bottles before any of the masses on the weekend of February 10-11.

SJB Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word is a worship experience geared especially for children ages 6 -10. It is a special opportunity for children to understand and appreciate Scripture at Sunday Mass. Basically, after the opening prayer (Collect) at the 10:45 a.m. English Mass and 12:30 p.m. Polish Mass, the children are invited to come forward with two adult Catechists and go to the Music Room in Church to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word. Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers an experience for children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God's word. The children return to the main parish assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We warmly invite all children in the parish to participate in the Chil-dren’s Liturgy of the Word. All parents, please encourage your children to join when a clergy invite them to come forward to hear the Good News. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry will continue until June of 2018.
