Listen, college and high school are two very different ballgames. Once we leave high school and head to college, we’re up for a big challenge. You can’t wait last minute to study for a test an hour before, that’s not how it works! In order to succeed, you HAVE to work hard. None of that pesky procrastinating. One third of freshman students don’t make it to their sophomore year, and in order for you to be one of those who succeed, you’ll need to do your best!

Alright, so here’s the deal. Freshman year of college is going to be HARD. It’s a completely new experience of life that we aren’t used to, it can be scary, but mostly exciting! More than 28 percent of of freshman students frequently felt overwhelmed by all they had to do. Which is a reason why a LOT of college students drop out. Now, I’m not trying to scare anyone, just giving a reality check! College isn’t something that you can just brush off, it takes dedication, and it IS worth it, contrary to what many believe.

Now that I’ve laid down the big scary facts, it’s time for me and our students at Latta to lend a few tips for studying.

Tip 1: Study, Study, and Study Some More! There is no such thing as too much studying! Try to be as prepared as you can in college, and that might mean you have to eat, sleep, and breathe studying. It’s so important to be ahead of the game, and know your material. That’s the advice everyone gives you while in college, STUDY!

Tip 2: Take Notes - Okay, this is also one of the most important things you can do in college (besides actually showing up to your classes) While you’re in class, write down what you think is important! Professors are different than teachers, and it’s up to you to get the material written down.

Tip 3: Do NOT Procrastinate - Whether it’s studying for a test, working on your assignments, or taking notes, a LOT of us like to wait until last minute. That kids, is what we call procrastination, and is one of the worst things you can do. Do NOT wait until you have to do it. Be one step ahead! Instead of pulling an all nighter for an essay you had to finish writing, you could’ve done it a few days ahead, and gotten the correct amount of sleep.

TIp 4: Have an Orderly Schedule - Plan things out. What time is it available for you to study? When can you work on your essay? I suggest having a planner and writing these things down so you don’t forget anything important and you also know when you’re free time is available.

We all know how hard is can be to get up early after a long break from school or or just in general. Here are a few tips to make waking up early easier!

Wake up earlier the day before you have to go back to work/school Getting up earlier the day before you have to go back to school/work, will help you be ready for bed earlier the night before. This will help up be well rested the day you go back.

Don’t take naps during the days leading up to going backTaking naps during the day might be energizing, however, this can cause you to stay up later. Staying up late makes it very hard to wake up earlier due to the lack of sleep.

Wash your face as soon as you wake upWashing your face as soon as you get out of bed with cold water will help open your eyes and close your pores. It also increases circulation to your face. While this helps you be more awake, it can also help with acne.

Switch your alarm every couple of months It’s important to switch your alarm at least every couple of months, because using the same alarm tone for long periods of time can make it easy to get used to the sound and/or vibrations, causing you to sleep through it.

Stop drinking caffeine late in the dayCaffeine intake can have a major role in keeping you awake at night. The later you drink caffeine, the longer you will stay awake. Drinking only water, or any drink without caffeine, after four p.m. can help you get to bed on time, and, in turn, make it easier to wake up the next morning.

I’m sure we are all aware of the saying, “Seeing is Believing”. Well, if not, it basically means

if you see it then you believe that it’s real. The truth is you don’t have to see something to know it’s real, to believe in it. The main thing that goes through people’s mind is that they can’t see God, so how do I know he is real, how can I believe in something that I can’t see? Well what about wind. Can u see wind? Can you actually see wind? Can

you actually see God?Wind is moving air. You can see air, when you

look up at the sky, that’s the nitrogen particles scattering blue light. The difference between wind and air is that wind is the horizontal motion of air, due to the pressure difference between two places. In simpler terms, wind is the movement of air just like waves are the movement of water. We can see the air in the sky, but we can’t see the wind. We

can see the effects of the wind, hair blowing around , the leafs on the trees swaying from the wind, and

trash blowing around in the air. http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/windandholyspirit.html puts it like this. Wind has no material

shape or form. It is invisible; we cannot see the source or the destination of wind. It is a

mysterious, unseen force. Nevertheless, its presence is known by its effects. Likewise, the

unseen Holy Spirit can be experienced in a refreshing way. His presence is displayed in the work he does in human lives by transforming,

sanctifying, encouraging, and teaching. So how can you believe in the wind, how do

you know it’s real? You can’t see it, so how do you know it’s real?

Just like we can’t see the wind, we can only see the effects of the wind, it’s the same with God. We

can’t see him, but we can see the effects of his work…. So I guess that seeing isn’t believing, it’s feeling sure of the truth of something even if you

can’t see it.

National Handwriting day was established in 1977 by the Writing Instrument

Manufacturers Association. This national day was introduced in order to promote

the consumption of Pens, Pencils, and Writing Paper. The date of January 23rd,

which was also the birthday of Revolutionary leader and first to sign the Declaration

of Independence John Hancock, was ultimately chosen as the most appropriate

day. National Handwriting day brings awareness to the dying art of writing with pen

and paper, while celebrating the individuality that can be found through one’s

handwriting.

The earliest forms of handwriting can date back to almost 5,000 years ago.

Children in school all over the country have previously been taught cursive as a part

of handwriting lessons. As more states adopt Common Core standards, this type of

writing has begun to disappear. This is because Common Core only requires

manuscript handwriting until the first grade. According to these standards, cursive

instruction is not mandated at all. Some opponents of cursive instruction believe that

it is more important to begin teaching children at an earlier age digital proficiency, as

opposed to the importance of penmanship.

Hey, it’s TraVante here to to give you birthdays of cool scientists that you may know or may not know about.

Sir Isaac Newton PRS was an English mathematician, astronomer, and physicist who is widely recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time and a key figure in the scientific revolution.

King Camp Gillette was an American businessman. He invented a best selling version of the safety razor. Several models were in existence before Gillette's design. Gillette's innovation was the thin, inexpensive, disposable blade of stamped steel.

Be Prepared: I’m not saying you have to have your whole essay memorized, but it’s always a good idea to read over your writing a few times. This could not only help with catching potential mistakes, but also help you feel more comfortable reading your presentation. Make Eye Contact: While making eye contact with people in your class can be a little intimidating at times, it helps to get your point across, and it makes your presentation seem more authentic overall. However, making eye contact with your friends is not a great idea if you think you will start laughing. Use the 3 Rule: Begin by mentally dividing the room into three sections: the left, center, and right. Then, make a conscious effort to make eye contact with a person in each section for three seconds at a time. This will help you keep the entire room involved and paying attention. Have the Right Materials: Having a copy of your presentation in your hand while presenting can be good as long as you aren't reading it off of the paper word for word. Taking a copy will give you peace of mind in case you lose your place or get tongue tied.

Every New Year’s Eve we look back on the current year and think of news ways to

better ourself for the next year and make goals. Eventually though, we fall back to our old ways and stop trying and give up. I'm TraVante and I'm here to show you,

with the help of bankrate.com, five ways to keep your New Year's resolutions.

1 Make it something you really want. According to bankrate.com, it is easier to keep your resolutions Don't make a resolution that you "should" want or what other people tell you to want. It has to be something you really want to improve on.

2. Limit your list to a number you can handle. "It's probably best to make two or three resolutions that you intend to keep," says O'Connor. This helps keep you focused on the goals you truly want.

3. Be specific. To be effective, resolutions and goals need to be pretty specific.

4. Automate .(automate-convert to largely automatic operation.)Automating financial goals can maximize your odds for success without you having to do anything

5. Be prepared to change some habits. One reason that resolutions fail is people don't change the habits that sabotage them, says Rosalene Glickman, author of "Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self."

5 Healthy Snack Food Ideas

Grapes and Cheese:While these two foods aren’t usually put together, they are both healthy and delicious! The best kind are red grapes and any kind of smoked cheese.

Pistachios:This snack has more potassium and vitamin K than other nuts.

Tortilla Pinwheels:These tasty tortillas are filled with cream cheese, a lunch meat of your choice, and optional vegetables.

Trail Mix:Almost any trail mix is going to be healthier than the normal alternative. Try to find a trail mix that is made up mostly of things you enjoy eating

Greek Yogurt and Granola: Greek yogurt had fewer carbohydrates and sugar with more protein and a thicker texture than regular yogurt.
