Statistics show that 45 percent of people set a New Year’s resolution, but only 8 percent of them achieve success. It’s not easy to change, but there are some proven steps that can help you succeed. In 2002, John Norcross, PhD, professor of psychology at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, found that people who are the most prepared to get to the action stage of behavior change are the most likely to succeed in keeping New Year’s resolutions. Norcross also found that “resolvers” reported higher rates of success than “non-resolvers.” At six months, 46 percent of the resolvers were continuously successful, compared to 4 percent of the non-resolvers. “This goes to show that the simple act of setting an intention or goal is a big step toward achieving it,” according to Yuri Elkaim, author of “The All-Day Fat Burning Diet.” In his book, Elkaim details several steps for successful changes that can help with any changes you may want to make. 1. GET CRYSTAL CLEAR. To get started, know exactly what you want. Once you can see it and feel it, write it down and attach a deadline to it — otherwise it’s simply a pipe dream that might happen “someday,” a day that may never come. 2. PLAN AND PREPARE. Figure out what you’re going to have for dinner for the week and get everything you need from the grocery store. If you work out first thing in the morning, get your workout attire ready to go and load your favorite workouts on your device the night before. 3. START YOUR ENGINE. Get motivated by making yourself ready for action. If you don’t feel like working out, raise your hands in the air in celebration or jump around while you listen to the theme song from "Rocky." It’s impossible not to feel better after that. It’s time to get to work. 4. GET SOCIAL SUPPORT. The road to a personal breakthrough can be lonely, so surround yourself with positive people who will support you on your path. 5. CREATE A WINNING ENVIRONMENT. Vitamin A is fat soluble. Cooking these foods and pairing them with healthy fats will increase absorption of beta-carotene.

DEEP-HUED BERRIESElderberries, long used in folk remedy for respiratory illness, have been shown in studies to help prevent the flu. Other dark-hued berries may also offer some protection and are full of antioxidants that help cells recover from oxidative stress.
