Godwin Director 4814 South 40th Street June 19, 2012 REF: NOTICE FOR MRI USERS Dear Users: Phoenix, Arizona 85040-2940 (602) 255-4845 Ext 272 Fax (602) 437-0705 Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 30, Chapter 4, is the authority under which the Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency (ARRA) administers the State's radiation control program. The Arizona Revised Statutes require the Agency to regulate the use, storage and disposal of sources of radiation. In conformance with the statutory requirements, the Agency has established regulations for the safe use of sources of radiation. Arizona Administrative Code (AAC.), Title 12, Chapter 1, Article 14, contains "Rules for the Control of Nonionizing Radiation". These rules required that all MRI units be registered with the Agency in accordance with AAC. Article 13. The requirement for MRI units to be licensed/registered with the Agency was deleted in final rulemaking at 9 AAR. 1126, effective May 9, 2003. As a result of the rule amendment all license/registrations and annual fees for MRI have been terminated. Should the health or radiation safety issues change in the future the requirement for registration could be reinstated through amendment to AAC. Article 14.
