Respected Members. Jai Jinendra! It feels good to see temperature crossing 65 Deg F. Summer is knocking on our door. We wish everybody nice and enjoyable summer. We have also planned our activities accordingly. Here is a quick summary of the events after the publication of the last Jainvani at the temple.
Antaray Karma Nivaran Puja(4/25) was conducted at temple followed by a light lunch. We would like to thank all the sponsors of the Puja.
Jivdaya Music Concert (5/1) was a tremendous success. We had seen a record donation as well as participation from the previous Jivdaya music concert (Dec-07). We had received $5,301 in donation. The event was attended by more than 225 people. Solid increase in numbers (Approx. $2300 & 110 people – Dec 07) shows that you appreciate this kind of programs. We would like to thank all the donors and coordinators.
The EC and Study class management team has introduced new food choices for Study class (5/2 and 5/23) students. As with any new item, we would like to hear your honest opinion/feedback. Success or Failure of change is in students and parents‟ hand. We would like to see 100% participation from everybody. So, if you have not provided your feedback then please do so now.
Student‟s Annual Day program (5/16) is setting new standards every year. Almost 150 students participated and demonstrated their skills without any stage fear. Don‟t forget to read the later part of the Jainvani for more detailed information about the event.
We had to reschedule our Maiden Mother‟s Day Garba from Sunday (5/9) to Friday (5/21) due to the power outage at the temple. We understand that the new date was not ideal for everybody but still was attended by more than 75 people. Hope this does not happen in the future and we see the whole society at their fullest capacity.

On May 22nd, JOY hosted a Garba Raas at the temple. We hired a DJ to play music for us, and it was a great time! Lots of people showed up, and we taught everyone how to do Garba and Raas. Everyone enjoyed learning the dances, and even the aunties came and danced along with us. This event brought all of the JOY kids, and Indian kids in the community together to bring out our culture. JOY is planning to make this Garba Raas an annual event, so keep your eyes open
for it next year!
During Annual Day this year, JOY was helping all around. 4 of the JOY board members, Anuj Shah, Kajal Ravani, Roshni Shah and Alisha Vora, were MC’s during the program. Monisha Shah and Vishal Modi, along with other JOY members helped keep everyone seated and silent throughout the show. The helpers also passed out and picked up suggestion cards during the end of the program. The show was a great success.
During May, JOY did a lot of community service in and outside the temple. We helped at Annual Day, we did a Snatra Puja, we hosted a Garba and we went to downtown Detroit and helped at World Medical Relief. On May 8th, JOY board sang the monthly Snatra Puja. We sang our parts and our solos and we also helped in the Snatra Puja! It was a lot of fun, and we hope to do it again sometime soon. During May, JOY helped at World Medical Relief. World Medical Relief is a relief program that doctors donate their medical supplies to, and then they send out to third world countries. We took a trip to the World Medical Relief building in downtown Detroit and helped out. Half the group helped in sorting medical supplies and others helped in sorting prosthetic body parts. It was an enlightening experience to see how much other countries need these medical supplies, and JOY will be
going back to World Medical Relief to help out again soon.
