La Iglesia católica ha dedicado este año a reflexionar

sobre la realidad de la familia en el mundo actual. El VIII

Encuentro Mundial de las Familias, que se celebrará en

Filadelfia del 22 al 27 de septiembre de 2015, se convierte

en puente y escenario de dos sínodos convocados por el

Papa Francisco para discernir la manera en que la Iglesia

puede responder con más amor pastoral a los retos que las

familias enfrentan a principios del siglo XXI. Esta búsque-

da de respuestas requiere salir al encuentro de las familias

y saber caminar con ellas en su realidad cotidiana. Eso es,

sin duda, lo que hará el Papa cuando nos visite por primera

vez en Estados Unidos, con motivo del encuentro, el cual

tiene como tema “El amor es nuestra misión: La familia

plenamente viva”.

Como buen pastor, el Papa Francisco ha exhortado a los

obispos y a todos los servidores de la Iglesia a que encuen-

tren maneras nuevas de acompañar a las familias con la

ternura y la cercanía del amor de Cristo. El Papa señala

que para entender más profundamente el ejemplo amoroso

de Jesús y la acción transformadora del Espíritu Santo en

nuestras vidas, es necesario entrar en contacto con la pa-

labra de Dios. Es por esa razón que Su Santidad nos invita a

llevar a cabo una animación bíblica de la pastoral familiar,

la cual no tiene tanto que ver con cursos formales sobre la

The Catholic Church has dedicated this year to reflecting on the reality of family in today’s world. The eighth World Meeting of Families, to be celebrated in Philadelphia September 22–27, 2015, will act as a bridge and stage for two synods convened by Pope Francis to discern the ways in which the Church can respond with more pasto-ral love to the challenges families are facing at the begin-ning of the twenty-first century. This search for answers requires meeting families where they are and knowing how to walk with them in their everyday lives. This is surely what the pope will do when he visits us for the first time in the United States for the world meeting, which has as its theme “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive.”

As a good shepherd, Pope Francis has urged the bishops and all ministers of the Church to find new ways of accompanying families with the tenderness and close-ness of the love of Christ. The pope has insisted that in order to have a more profound understanding of the lov-ing example of Jesus and the transformative action of the Holy Spirit in our lives, it is necessary to enter into contact with the word of God. It is for this reason that His Holiness invites us to use family ministry to promote careful read-ing of the Bible, which does not have as much to do with formal courses about the Bible as it does with allowing the power of the word of God to enter into family life and
