Rock Cycle
Igneous
Facts:• Near volcanos• Formed by solidified molten rock • Cools when reaches surface
Examples:• Granite• Basalt
Metamorphic
Facts:• Formed when other rocks are changed by
heat, pressure, and chemical action.
Examples:• Marble• Gniess
Sedimentary
Facts:• Formed when combinations of rock fragments,
seashells , and chemicals are compressed in layers and hardened.
Examples: • Limestone• Sand stone
Magma
Rocks form in layers. It starts from the magma chamber then flows up. It goes in between all the layers and goes up into the earths surface. And forms rock. Some rocks form under ground, the layers compress together and make rock.
Physical properties of rocks
• Rocks can be identified by their physical properties.
• Different physical properties include:1. Luster2. Streak3. Hardness4. Color5. Texture
• Each physical property can identify weather it is sedimentary, igneous, or metamorphic
Rock Cycle Stages
1. Magma comes up from underground2. Cools down and turns into igneous 3. Heat and pressure turn igneous into
metamorphic 4. Breaks down and turns into sediment5. compacts and turns into sedimentary
Rock CycleMagma cools then turns into igneous, when its weathered it turns into sediment , compacting makes the sediment turn into sedimentary rock the heat and pressure turns it into metamorphic rock. Then that’s the rock cycle!!
How rocks are made
• Rocks are formed and made in many different ways and many different times.
• Rocks take at least millions to thousands of years to form.
• Different rocks form different ways• sedimentary: formed when combinations of rock
fragments are compressed together. • metamorphic: formed by heat and pressure.• igneous: formed when molten rock reaches the
earth surfaces and cools.
Extra Information
• The rock cycle never stops.• All rocks can be heated• When Earths tectonic plates move
around, they produce heat. When they come together, they make mountains and build rock.
• Rocks are made mostly of minerals or can be made of one mineral only.
