Some of these activities can be seen right here in Broken Arrow. If you drive down Main Street, you may notice the familiar pink ribbons decorating store fronts and lamp posts, and if you enter the stores, you’ll likely find pink items available for purchase. You can even purchase pink shirts from The Cage at our own High School Campus, and at the next football game, you might notice pink pompons and gloves used by our student athletes. At this Thursday’s football game, students in the High School Leadership Students are leading an effort to honor those who have been affected by breast cancer. Working with local vendors, they are organizing a few simple activities to honor those who are battling breast cancer, those who have fought and won, and those whose lives have been claimed by the disease. As part of these activities, the students are attempting to collect the names of all BAPS employees who have been affected by breast cancer, so that their names can be shown on the video board during the event. If you are one of those who have been affected by this disease, or perhaps you are aware of a co-worker who has or is fighting the battle, we would like you to be part of the ceremony. Simply send your name, or the name of a friend or family member, in an email to Christian Welborn at [email protected], and indicate which of the categories is applicable: fighter, survivor, or in memory. The students would like to honor as many individuals as possible. Their goal is to heighten awareness of the affects of breast cancer right here in Broken Arrow, while also reminding the audience that by working together, we can and will find the cure for breast cancer. Aside from Halloween, the month of October is perhaps most well-known as the month of breast cancer awareness.
