INTRODUCTIONMY CLIENT, SINARMAS IS A COMPANY OF

MANY BUSINESSES THAT IS LOCATED HERE IN INDONESIA. THEY HAVE BEEN OPERATING

SINCE 1962. THEIR PROBLEM IS THAT THEY NEED A NEW LOGO FOR THE AREAS OF

INTERACTION, IB LEARNER PROFILE AND DESIGN CYCLE. THEREFORE, THE LOGO MUST

BE ATTRACTIVE BUT AT THE SAME TIME CREATIVE. SINCE MY CLIENT, SINARMAS

THINKS THAT THE OLD LOGO FOR AREAS OF INTERACTION, IB LEARNER PROFILE AND

DESIGN CYCLE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THEM, MY CLIENT WANTS THE LOGO TO REPRESENT “NEW AND IMPROVED” AND NOT GIVE A BAD IMPRESSION TO PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW

ABOUT IT. THEY WANT PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE AREAS OF

INTERACTION, IB LEARNER PROFILE AND DESIGN CYCLE FROM JUST “LOOKING” AT THE

LOGO.

THROUGHOUT THIS TERM, I AM GOING TO DESIGN AND CREATE A LOGO THAT MEETS ALL THE EXPECTATIONS

OF MY CLIENT, SINARMAS. TO MAKE A GOOD PRODUCT, I WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH CERTAIN STEPS WHICH COME FROM THE IB’S DESIGN CYCLE. THESE STEPS ARE: INVESTIGATION, DESIGN, PLAN, CREATE AND

EVALUATE. I WILL INTERVIEW MY CLIENT, SINARMAS TO ASK THEM WHAT THEIR REQUIREMENTS ARE FOR THE LOGO THAT THEY WANT. I WILL PLAN MY STEPS

CAREFULLY USING THE GANTT CHART BEFORE I CREATE THE PRODUCT SO THAT I WILL KNOW WHAT I AM DOING AND WON’T MAKE A CARELESS MISTAKE. THE FINAL PRODUCT WILL BE CREATED BASED ON

WHAT THE CLIENT EXPECT AND OPINIONS ON DIFFERENT FACTORS SUCH AS STYLE, LOOKS, THEME

ETC.

AOI Areas Of Interaction

This project is related to the AOI, Human Ingenuity because Human Ingenuity is all about creativity and how it impacts upon society and how to influence

and transform the quality of life. I will also try to use my imagination to create the sense of “attractiveness” that every logo have. I will gather information

from interviews and research on techniques on how to make a logo look attractive. I will design the logo according to my client’s demands through my creativity. So therefore, Human Ingenuity best matches this project than the

other Areas of Interaction.

Client INTERVIEWQ1. WHAT KIND OF LOGO DO YOU THINK WOULD SUIT THESE THREE SYSTEMS?Q2. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE THE DESIGN TO LOOK LIKE?Q3. HOW COLORFUL DO YOU WANT IT TO BE?Q4. WHICH SOFTWARE DO YOU LIKE US TO USE WHEN CREATING THE LOGOS?Q5. HOW LONG DO YOU WANT THIS PRODUCT TO BE MADE?

A1: I THINK THAT A MORE STUDIOUS LOGO WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR THESE THREE “SYSTEMS”. I ALSO REQUEST IT TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE INNOVATIVE BECAUSE IF IT’S A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN, I MEAN WHO WOULD BE

INTERESTED IN THEM.A2: I THINK THAT THE PERFECT LOOK FOR THE DESIGN IS TOO BE A SIMPLE DESIGN THAT USES SIMPLE PATTERNS OR SHAPES. IF IT IS COMPLICATED, THEN PEOPLE WILL FIND IT HARD TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND WHAT THE LOGO

IS ABOUT. SO IT WOULD BE BEST IF THE LOGO USES SIMPLE PATTERNS, AND ALSO HAVE IT SHOW THE SIGNIFICANCE OF WHAT IT REPRESENTS.

A3. I THINK THAT A CHEERFUL COLOR WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THIS KIND OF LOGO BECAUSE SINCE CHILDREN OF ALL AGE IN THE SCHOOL USES THE AREAS OF INTERACTION, IB LEARNER PROFILE AND DESIGN

CYCLE EVERYDAY SO IT WOULDN’T BE DULL AND BORING.A4: I AM NOT PARTICULARLY SURE ON WHICH SOFTWARE BUT ANY SOFTWARE WOULD DO FINE IF THE FINAL

PRODUCT IS GOOD.A5: I THINK THE MOST APPROPRIATE DUE DATE FOR THIS LOGO MAKING PROJECT IS ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS BECAUSE

NOT ONLY WE NEED TO PLAN, WE ALSO MUST THINK ON HOW TO CREATE A LOGO THAT WOULD CAPTURE THE HEARTS OF MANY PEOPLE.

INTERVIEW SUMMARY

FROM THE INTERVIEW WITH MY CLIENT, I HAVE RECEIVED NECESSARY INFORMATION TO CREATE A “GOOD” LOGO THAT

FULFILLS THEIR EVERY REQUEST. I NOW KNOW WHAT THE CLIENT DEMANDS OF THE LOGO AND HOW IT WILL LOOK LIKE.

THE INTERVIEW WAS NOT VERY SPECIFIC THOUGH BUT NEVERTHELESS, THE INFORMATION THAT I GET IS SUFFICIENT.

THIS WILL HELP ME TO GET AN IDEA OF HOW TO CREATE A LOGO THAT CAN REPRESENT THE AREAS OF INTERACTION, IB

LEARNER PROFILE AND DESIGN CYCLE.

Function To make people understand that this logo represent International Baccalaureate

To make people know that this logo symbolizes starbucks coffee

To make people know which company it is when they see it.

Target Audience Everybody Everybody EverybodyAesthetics Looks simple yet nice Looks classic and retro with the cool

mermaid designLooks simple and shows that it is Sinarmas group with the hidden “S” in the circles

Modifications It’s simple but it lacks information. The logo doesn’t show what International Baccalaureate really is.

The logo looks cool but it doesn’t really represent coffee if you take out the starbucks and coffee words on the logo. If someone who

doesn’t know starbucks sees this, I doubt he/she knows that it is for a coffee company

The design doesn’t look aesthetically good as logo 1 & 2. Need more simple design. Too much lines and doesn’t actually look

like it symbolizes anything

Style Modern Classic Use of shapes, creating patterns

CaseStudySUMMARY

WHILE RESEARCHING FOR 3 DIFFERENT LOGOS, I MAINLY FOCUS ON THE ONES THAT I THINK ARE UNIQUE AND INTERESTING. THIS HELP ME ON GETTING NEW IDEAS OF THE LOGOS THAT I WILL CREATE FOR MY

CLIENT LATER. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN, I CAN “COPY” THE STYLE OF HOW THEY MANIPULATE THE LOGO SO THAT IT’S EASY TO REMEMBER. I WILL ANALYZE ON THE THEME, FONTS AND ARRANGEMENTS TO SEE

WHAT MAKES THEM DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER LOGOS.

Design BRIEFI WILL DESIGN A LOGO OF THE DESIGN CYCLE, AREAS OF INTERACTION AND IB

LEARNER PROFILE THAT WOULD SYMBOLIZES EACH OF ITS OWN CHARACTERISTICS. THIS PRODUCT WILL BE MADE THROUGHOUT THIS AND THE NEXT MONTH BY FOLLOWING THE 5 STEPS OF THE DESIGN CYCLE WHICH ARE:

INVESTIGATION, DESIGN, DESIGN, PLAN, CREATE AND EVALUATE. INVESTIGATION, DESIGN AND PLAN WILL BE DONE BEFORE CREATING THE

PRODUCT ITSELF BECAUSE THESE STEPS ARE ESSENTIAL WHEN CREATING THE PRODUCT BECAUSE WE WILL BE PREPARED AND KNOW WHAT TO DO FROM

THE INVESTIGATION, PLANNING AND DESIGNING. THE CREATE PART WILL BE DONE AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL. WHEN THE PRODUCT IS MADE, THE WHOLE

PROJECT WILL BE EVALUATED ON CERTAIN SPECIFIC POINTS. THEN THE PRODUCT WILL BE GIVEN TO THE CLIENT TO BE ESTABLISHED.

IMPACTS On The ENVIRONMENT & SOCIETY

When making an advertisement, I realize that it can affect the environment around it. For example, the laptop we use are made out of plastics which was generated by coal. These

plastics when discarded will someday be burned. When it burns, it will release deadly chemicals that destroys our own ozone layer that protect us from the harmful rays of the sun. But not only this affect the environment. The coal that was burned to produce this

releases the same dangerous gas plastics expose when they are burned.

The advertisement also affects the society. It may make people all over the

place change decisions and personal remarks on the logos and the “systems”

that the logos represent. Monday, November 14, 2011

SPECIFCATIONTitle Specification & Why Test

SoftwareAdobe Photoshop, because it is the most efficient editing

software that is currently available in the laptop.I will try to find out the advantages

of using Adobe Photoshop.

Time5 weeks, because my client have demanded the amount

of time needed to create the product they want.I will plan my create stage so that the

product can be made at 5 weeks exact.

SizeUnique use of shapes and patterns because I think that it

would add a unique sense of interest to the logo.

I will find different logos that manipulates shapes to create the effects that I think would be suitable

for this project and try to copy/analyze them.

AestheticsColorful and different pattern of colors so that it would be

interesting.I will find different logos that uses

different colors to manipulate their looks.

Target Audience

Everybody because the product the logo represent is used by everyone in my client’s school, SWA.

I will ask people whether or not the target audience that I am aiming for is

appropriate.

FunctionTo create a more interesting approach when using the

product that the logo is representing.

I will ask people whether or not they think that the current Design Cycle, Areas of Interaction and IB learner Profiles are interesting without the logos.

PurposeTo make the product that the logo represent more

interesting.

I will ask people whether or not they think that the current Design Cycle, Areas of Interaction and IB learner Profiles are interesting without the logos.

DurabilityIt will last for 1 year because my client will hire another client

next year to do the same thing to prevent “boredom”

I will ask people whether or not they think that the current Design Cycle, Areas of Interaction and IB

learner Profiles are interesting if kept the same logo for more than 1 year.

SuMMAry Of Investigation

The interview was done with my client to provide me with information on how to create their perspective of what suitable logos are for the Areas of Interaction, the IB Learner Profiles and

the Design Cycle. It gave me specific information about every detail I need to create the logos.

The case study on 3 different logos gave me a better view and perspective of how different logos and their different styles are unique. This also helped me in recognizing which unique

parts of them that made them “attractive” so that I can learn from that example.

Researching about how the advertisement affect the environment helped me realize about how big the impact of just creating a logo have on the environment.

The specification and testing is my guide when I am making the advertisement. Also, when I draw the design, I will evaluate each and choose the final design I want to create. The testing

part is so that I could make a good quality product that my client have requested.
