Carpark Construction – Dayboro Rugby League Club There has certainly been a hive of activity over the past few months in the Dayboro War Memorial Grounds at Don Kerr Drive. Two areas of car parking have been created as part of Council’s Car Parking Construction Program, designed to provide formalised parking that not only caters to existing needs but also ensures ongoing demand for car parking at the club will be adequate. The scope of works for this project included building two levels of parking, pathways for easy access between the buildings and the fields, landscaping and security lighting. The finished areas certainly look great and I am sure they will be a welcome addition to the grounds. Facility Upgrades & New Change Rooms - Narangba Rugby League The Narangba Rangers Rugby League Football Club is set to have a new amenities block and change rooms as well as renovations to their clubhouse and field lighting in projects worth close to $600,000. The clubhouse upgrade is nearing completion. The works include improvements to safety and all-ability access, landscaping, and even an external serving window from the canteen so that hardworking volunteers can see games being played on the top field. The new change rooms and amenities are due to be completed by mid-2021 and have been made possible as part of the Queensland Government’s 2020- 2021 COVID Works for Queensland Program. The club has also secured $15,000 funding from Council’s Community Grants Program, another $10,000 from our COVID Hardship Grant, and a $50,000 COVID Revitalisation Grant to help financially support the club’s operations during these tough times and to upgrade the field lighting. It is so great to see clubs take advantage of the funding available to help them to achieve such a great outcome for their growing community. There are so many kids getting out and being active who are now able to participate in local sports at their club with modern and safe facilities. Events are back!

Dust off the calendar and start making plans again, because major events are back on in Moreton Bay!

Jetty 2 Jetty and Kids Fest were enormous successes - even through the requirements of social distancing.

The fact that we can get outside and enjoy the beach and events like this while other parts of the world are still in lockdown, is entirely thanks to you for doing the right thing for so long.

So I thank you for keeping our community safe and encourage you to get along to our next COVID Safe event: Teddy Bear’s Picnic in Pine Rivers Park on Friday 6 November.

Events aren’t just a great time, they’re a lifeline for local entertainers, food venders and the hotel industry who’ve been hit hard by COVID019 restrictions.

Council has rolled out a number of stimulus packages, including refunding food licence fees to local businesses, but what they need most is your support.

Moreton Bay locals and Queenslanders have been the best citizens in Australia for abiding by social distancing rules, you’ve earned this fun!

Amid the toing-and-froing of this heated election campaign, Council has made it clear to all candidates that we have two key priorities that need investment: infrastructure and the environment.

I’ve personally met with every candidate to make sure that no matter who wins on October 31, Council will have a working relationship with the government so that Moreton Bay can immediately hit the ground running with them.

Top of our wishlist is for the state government to build a koala hospital here in Moreton Bay. Given Moreton Bay is home to one of the few growing koala populations in Australia, this is a logical and time-critical investment that we want to see happen ASAP. Wildlife volunteers currently have to transport koalas to the RSPCA in Wacol or Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast for emergency medical treatment, which is an untenable two-hour return journey. I’m hoping for a solution.

We have ramped-up our advocacy of the need to improve the efficiency of our road networks through the campaign, asking both political parties and all levels

of government to unite around three major projects: Building a second bridge over the North Pine River, delivering the Moreton Connector, and making the new Youngs Crossing Bridge a reality. Infrastructure Australia recently identified transport corridors between Moreton Bay and Brisbane as a national priority in its updated 2020 Infrastructure Priority List, and we all know our region is already experiencing the effects of this high-growth, particularly along the Bruce Highway corridor. With another 240,000 people expected to move here by 2041, infrastructure investment is needed now because that figure represents a 50% population increase over the next two decades.

We’ve also asked state government candidates to support an array of sporting upgrades, skate parks, new fitness equipment and playgrounds to enhance our local lifestyle.

Whoever wins this election, I want you to know that your Council is ready and waiting to start work with the new government on November 1.

DDIIVVIISSIIOONN 1111 NNEEWWSS

MMIISSSSIINNGG LLIINNKK A new pathway has been constructed in Greenhaven Circuit, Narangba which will complete the missing link for locals. This new pathway will provide a safer, more convenient way to travel between Jinibara State School and the Stoneridge Estate, especially for children.

SSHHOOWWGGRROOUUNNDD FFEENNCCIINNGG

It is exciting to see this new addition to the Samford Showgrounds, newly constructed cattle fencing. This project included the design and construction of six cattle pens and one large cattle yard, all with steel fencing. In addition, there are loading ramps and to top it off a new wash bay area. The yards are a great multi-purpose functional area that will primarily be used by the Samford Show Society for their annual show, but they will also be able to be utilised for other cattle events throughout the year.

KKUURRWWOONNGGBBAAHH WWIILLDDLLIIFFEE SSIIGGNNSS A number of new signs have recently been installed along Scout Road, Kurwongbah, in the hope that they will remind drivers to keep an eye out for wildlife in the area. There will also be road stencilling installed in the coming months in strategic locations identified by Council’s Green Infrastructure Team where our native friends are at higher risk of collision. I also received feedback from a number of local residents

concerned that drivers are not taking care when travelling through the area. We all need to be aware, especially at this time of year when wildlife is on the move. It is important that we try to take care of our fauna, like this little guy I recently met when attending a meeting of the Ocean View Rural Fire Brigade.

NNEEWW BBUUSS SSHHEELLTTEERR I am sure local parents as well as children will welcome the newly installed school bus stop and shelter on Bradley Street, Dayboro just in time for the warmer weather. The new shelter sits on a concrete slab that connects to the existing pathway and has been installed after we received numerous community requests.

BBIIGG WWIINN FFOORR TTHHEE EENNVVIIRROONNMMEENNTT A new program introduced by Council will see around $1.8 million in funding going towards an environmental land buy-back scheme designed to protect koala habitat, wildlife corridors and greenspace. The program was made possible through an increase of $6 to the existing infrastructure charge. This small increase will make a huge difference in protecting native wildlife by allowing Council to purchase land near existing habitats to protect vital corridors and restore and rehabilitate land. This will ensure that there is wildlife living and breeding safely around our region, not only for those who live in the area to experience, but also for future generations to enjoy.

SSTTOONNEE RRIIDDGGEE BBOOUULLEEVVAARRDD PPAARRKK The first stage of a two-stage project to provide accessible car parking and public amenity facilities for a popular park in Narangba is now complete. The construction of an accessible car parking space is a

great addition to the area, providing a dedicated zone for this busy park in Stone Ridge Boulevard. Also delivered as part of the project’s first stage was new landscaping. Local residents will be advised when works on the public amenity building and further landscaping are due to commence.
