Lets Go Green! In one year over 39,000 sheets of paper are used to produce this newsletter. Although we have the ability to continue production the same, the benefits of cutting down our paper usage are far too tremendous to disregard. For every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved:

• 17 Trees• 7,000 gallons of water• Enough electricity to power an average house for six months.

America is the queen of trash. Every day in the U.S., we produce enough trash to equal the weight of the Empire State Building. We throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour, produce enough styrofoam cups annually to circle the earth 436 times and trash enough office paper to build a 12-foot wall form Los Angeles to New York City. We throw away 570 disposable diapers each second, and toss out enough aluminum cans to rebuild our commercial air fleet every three months. Each year we fill enough garbage trucks to stretch from Earth halfway to the moon.

Did you know?• 250,000,000 trees could be saved if all our newspaper was recycled• The average American uses 7 trees a year• 1 Billion – estimated number of trees worth of paper thrown away every year in the US

Our choices and behaviors have a ripple effect that reach across the world today, and on to future genera-tions. What we buy, what we do or do not recycle, what we “throw away” has an impact on an evermore interconnected planet. If we want to maintain the standard of living we currently enjoy and pass it on to our posterity, it will take an all-hands effort to preserve the foundation of that standard of living – clean air, water and soil.

ATTENTION READERS

Taking care of Mother Earth is our responsibility. There are many things we all can do to help out whether it’s as simple as recycling a water bottle or using tote bags at stores instead of plastic ones. The newsletter staff would like to encourage everyone to honor our Mother Earth. To show our support of Going Green we have decided to cut down on our distribution.

All Tribal members and descendants on the mailing list will continue receive the newslet-ter each month unless you notify the Editor that you would like to Go Green also. For all others, the newsletter is available online at www.hannahville.net Simply click the Tribal Newsletter link on the left side of the homepage and scroll down to Newsletter Archive section.

The newsletter will also be available through email. If you would like to be added to the mailing list you can either send and email to [email protected] or call (906) 723-2270. Tribal members and descendants can also be added to this mailing list instead of receiving a paper copy to help our efforts of Going Green. This change will not occur until November 2011, but if you are currently receiving the newsletter and would like to Go Green now you are encouraged to do so. Please call the Newslet-ter Editor to update your information.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you

pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-

working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

Love & Miss you Mom (Lucy Janet Smith) especially on your Birthday (9/5/35) when we all got

together to celebrate just the way you wanted.

Happy 14th Birthday JJ!

Here is one of our elders, Florence “Flee” Silver in her flower garden. She did it all herself, spending lots of time this summer watering and weed-ing it to make her flowers beautiful. One pot of flowers has grown so good they are taller than her!
