    From the Middle School Office

Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents

    Dear Parents:

We hope you all had a chance to watch the Middle School production of Alice inWonderland . Whether or not your child was involved in the production, it was anexcellent display of the Middle School students and Faculty working cooperativelyto produce and support a very memorable event. Congratulations to the cast andcrew!

This week, we finished our second round of MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)tests for this year in English and Math for Grade 5 to 8.

As you may remember, the MAP tests from the NWEA (Northwest EvaluationAssociation - USA) provide us with helpful data about the instructional levels of ourstudents. The results of the MAP tests will be send home with your child nextMonday afternoon, May 9. Since this is the second round of tests, we are able tocompare data from the first part of the year and track areas of growth. A letterfurther explaining the MAP tests and scores will accompany your childs results. Please take the opportunity to discuss your childs latest MAP results, keeping inmind that results for such standardized tests are purely a snapshot in time. TheMAP results are helpful to us as a school in informing our program.

For additional information about the MAP tests, you may visit the NWEA website atwww.nwea.org for the Parent Toolkit. Alternatively, feel free to contact yourchilds English or Math teacher or Ms. Fredericks if you have any questions.

This coming week (May 9 to 13), Shell will have an exhibit, Malampaya Deep-WaterGas-to-Power Project, on display in the MS Courtyard. Please feel free to visit thedisplay. The exhibit will hopefully serve as a great catalyst for conversations aboutboth the scientific marvels of electricity generation and implications for how weuse energy in the future.

The last party this school year for Grade 5 to 8 and the Bearcat Idol Finals is onFriday, May 13. It will run from 5:00 8:00 pm. Permission slips has beendistributed to students through Homebase. In order to attend, your child mustsubmit a signed permission slip and purchase a ticket. Please be advised thatstudents are expected to attend the duration of the party. In the event that astudent must leave before the end of the party, it is requested that a parent notifythe office in writing or by phone in advance. When informing the office of theearly pick-up, please tell us who will pick up your child and the time so that the MSOffice can inform security. Please understand that we request this information toensure the safety of the students in the rare event of them leaving an event early. We encourage all students to attend the party and are looking forward to 100%participation. The party will be a great opportunity to spend time with friends andsee our talented Bearcat Idol finalists!

Important Announcement: Re-Enrollment for SY 2011-2012

Re-Enrollment information for RETURNING STUDENTS for SY2011-12Re-Enrollment requirements will be similar to last year and include submission of an updated HealthForm or Physical Form (depending on grade level) to the Clinic for a Clearance Signature and a ClearanceSignature from the Cashiers Office on the Re-Enrollment Form.

The Re-Enrollment Form and other requested forms for each re-enrolling student will be available bythe beginning of April online from our website under Admission and Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal or atthe Admission Office during office hours (Monday to Friday; 7:00 am to 4:00 pm). Parents may pick up aset of Re-Enrollment Forms personally or your child can come to the Admission Office and get theforms. If you would like to have your driver or househelp pick up the forms, please give them a letter ofauthorization to collect the Re-Enrollment Forms for your child/children.

For STUDENTS NOT RETURNING next school year (does not to graduatingseniors)

If your child(ren) will not be returning to ISM for the 2011-12 school year , please inform the AdmissionOffice as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Parents are obliged to officially inform theSchool in writing on a WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION FORM, before the second Friday of May, if theirchildren will be withdrawn. Failure to do so will lead to a deduction of US$1,000 from the FacilitiesUpgrade Deposit (FUD), in compensation for having held a space for the child and thus preventing theSchool from offering that space to another child prior to the summer holiday break. The Withdrawal No-tification Form can be obtained from the Admission Office or from the ISM website under the Admissiontab and then click on Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal.

We currently have very few families indicating that they will not be returning and consequently there arean ever growing number of applicants in a WAITPOOL for possible openings. This is causing great distressand anxiety in those families (and in the Admission Office). If you are sure that your child will be leavingISM, please submit a Withdrawal Notification Form. This will be a great help for our planning and to themany families waiting to be admitted to the school.

From the High School Guidance OfficeDear ES and MS Parents,

We are very pleased to introduce you to a brand new and exciting high school initiative developed by the HS GuidanceDepartment in cooperation with the HS Administration:

    The BearcatSummer Internship Program

We are planning to develop a four day summer internship in June 2011 for some of our sophomore and junior highschool students with various companies in the Metro Manila area. However, in order to make this work, we need reputa-ble companies from a variety of industries to form partnerships with us and take part.

As parents of our ES and MS students, you may own, be employed by, or know of a company interested in supporting thisvery worthwhile endeavor. We ask for your support in helping us develop potential internship placements and subse-quently, lasting positive relationships with companies in the Metro Manila area.

We ask that you take time to reflect on this important initiative and its value for our ISM community. If you are in a po-sition to take one or more of our students as an intern at your company, please email [email protected] for acopy of the packet . The packet explain our pilot internship program further, and include the company participation ap-plication needed for interested organizations. Please keep in mind (for interested organizations), we would ideally likethe company application filled out and email back to me by May 13.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

    Thank you for your support.

    Sincerely,
