Last term we worked hard to promote punctuality and the importance of arriving at school and into class in a timely fashion. At the final assembly of Term 3 we recognised those students who had achieved 100% punctuality. A total of 66 of our 131 students made to class on time each morning. In term 4 we aim to increase this number and also recognise those students who have improved the most in this area. Arriving at school from 8.30am gives students time to interact with their peers and touch base with their teachers on an individual level. Being in class on time means students can settle quickly into their learning alongside their classmates, starting the day on the right note.

Tomorrow is national Shake Out Day and we will mark this day by practicing our Earthquake Drill in our classrooms. There will also be a demonstration of the Community Emergency Water Supply from 2.50pm for all interested parents and community members just prior to the regular pick up time. We will not be running a tsunami practice and re-unification drill on Shake Out Day as we have done in previous years, however later in the term we will hold an invacuation practice/parent pick up scenario. For those who ordered Calendar Art, these are being given out today. A big thank you goes to Pearl and Marion Carty for their co-ordination and organisation of this popular fundraiser. Approximately $600 was raised for the school. Mrs Meffan has worked tirelessly to arrange whole school swimming which starts next week and our annual whole school athletics day is being held from 12.00pm on Thursday 31 October Next Tuesday at 2.30pm we will hold our termly pōwhiri to welcome new whanau to our school. I hope you can join us. Ngā mihi, Tineke and the team

WELCOME

To Alex Langridge and Lachlan McCorkill who joined children in Harakeke (R5) this week. Welcome also to their families to our school community.

SUNSMART SUNHATS

A reminder in Term 1 and Term 4, children need to wear a sunhat when outside every day. We encourage hats as opposed to caps to provide extra care in looking after the necks and ears of students and also encourage students to wear sunblock and sun glasses when they are outside during the “sunsmart” months to keep them safe from the sun’s harmful rays.

VALUE OF THE WEEK – PB4L FOCUS

Our Value of the week is KINDNESS. We have KINDNESS in the LIBRARY when we:

FAIR MEETING Please note that the next Fair Meeting will be held next Monday 21 October at 7.00 pm in the staffroom. All very welcome

The Country Fair is coming up fast and planning is under way. This annual event is always a lot of fun and raises vital money for our tamariki and their education. It's time to start thinking about which stalls you would like to volunteer for on Fair day. These roles are for a time slot either in the morning (10.00am-12.30) or the afternoon (12.30-3.00pm). There are

two volunteers per time slot on each stall so there is always someone else to help you and to talk to. The stalls also each have a manager who can let you know what you need to do. We have an electronic sign up system which you can check out below. 1) Click this link to see our SignUps on SignUp.com:

https://signup.com/go/RPyXivS
