Racing Replay Delays -A Message from the TAB

With the team here in Auckland being moved to Level 3, we will be moving to bulk delivery of race replays. We anticipate that there will be 1 to 2 deliveries per meeting of several races at once.

We are moving to bulk delivery due to the fact our normal media operators are unable to operate on-premise and we will be using a remote op for multiple duties.

As a result, you may experience a delay in racing replay uploads.


2020/21 Minimum Stakes Confirmation

Following the recent announcement from RITA regarding code funding, the GRNZ board met earlier this week and are now able to confirm that minimum stake levels for the upcoming 2020/21 season will remain at the current levels.

Here are the minimum stakes table and percentage split:

Cambridge to Race Sunday 23 August

With the Auckland region currently under Alert Level 3, it is prudent to transfer this Sunday’s meeting from Manukau to Cambridge.

Work continues through official channels on the possibility of Auckland trainers sourcing an exemption to travel to and from Cambridge. Unfortunately, we have no time frame around this process.

To provide additional time for exemptions to be processed, nominations for this Thursday’s Cambridge meeting (Aug 20) will now close at noon Tuesday, and nominations for the new Sunday meeting will now close at noon Thursday.

Please continue to follow Alert Level 2 protocols at all meetings.

Rules and Processes regarding Harassment

Pre COVID lockdown there had been complaints made to the RIU and to the Greyhound Racing Clubs regarding allegations of poor behaviour by licence holders both on race days and through postings on social media sites.

It is timely that you are reminded of the relevant rules and your obligations as GRNZ licence holders.

The GRNZ Health and Safety Manual (published on the GRNZ website under ‘Rules and Policies’) details the following:

Chapter 10. Bullying and Harassment

All forms of bullying, harassment, unlawful discrimination and victimising are prohibited.

The Club must take reasonable steps to ensure that the workplace is free from all forms of bullying, harassment, unlawful discrimination and victimising.

Harassment, unlawful discrimination and victimisation are fully defined in the Human Rights Act 1993.

Bullying is any repeated unreasonable behaviour directed towards a person, or group of people, that creates a risk to their mental or physical health and safety.

Harassment is unwelcome conduct that is offensive, humiliating or intimidating to any other person and is either repeated or of such significant nature, that it has a detrimental effect on the person, their performance or their work and study environment.

The GRNZ ‘Social Media Policy’ includes the following:

When engaging in social media activities you must never:

· disparage anybody connected with the Association, including our members, trainers, owners, stakeholders or our directors and staff (past or present);

· You must ensure that you do not post material that is obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, discriminatory or hateful to another person or entity, including the Association, its employees, officials, clubs, other participants, contractors, and/or other related racing individuals or organisations.

A breach of either of these policies is an offence under GRNZ Rule 62.1(cc):

Any person (including an Official) commits an offence if he/she: acts in contravention of or fails to comply with any provision of these Rules or any Rules made thereunder, or any policy, notice, direction, instruction, guideline, restriction, requirement or condition given, made or imposed under these Rules

Standard for Blinker Policy

A dog must complete a Satisfactory Trial in Blinkers before wearing them in a Race (Rule 44.17).

Blinkers may be taken off or added at any stage without the need for another Trial but the following procedures must take place.

• Stewards must be informed of the desired change (includes the change to one or full blinkers) prior to 5 pm on the day before the meeting in which the Greyhound is engaged to race.

• Stewards will then make the change to the dog’s gear list.

• No dog will be allowed to start if wearing Blinkers different from what has been notified (Rule 44.13).

Specifications:• Blinkers must be positioned upright and not on an angle and must be attached securely to the muzzle to avoid movement or damage in the wind.

• Must be made from a light material, preferably wire covered with a sturdy thick black material that has a non-reflective finish so as to not affect the sight of other runners or compromise photo finish equipment.

• Edges to be rounded with no pointy or sharp areas that may cause injury to the greyhound or other greyhounds.

• The length of the blinker must not extend beyond the nose strap on the muzzle which may otherwise affect the forward vision of the greyhound or have the potential to interfere with photo finish equipment.

• Blinkers must be of sufficient height so as to fully obscure vision from the side but must not be greater than 7cm in height from the horizontal wire atop the muzzle.

Online Nominations Form Changes:Please note that due to these policy changes, the nominations form now excludes box first, inside blinker and outsider blinker in racing gear.
