ISPS Code ObjectivesObjectives:
To provide an international framework to detect security threats and take preventive measures against security incidentsTo detect and deter acts that threaten securityShip and port facility cooperation

ISPS - Key Definitions
Port - the area through which ship traffic and maritime commerce flow or people are transported, including areas ashore (extending to intermodal and cargo storage areas) and on the adjacent waters (to include anchorage & approaches), as defined by the designated authority.
Port Facility - is a location where the ship/port interface takes place, including anchorage, berths and approaches.
Recognized Security Organization (RSO) - an organization with appropriate expertise in security and anti-terrorism matters recognized by the Administration [or designated authority] and authorized by it to carry out assessment, verification, approval and certification activities, on its behalf.
