ISO 14001 & R2 - General
ISO 14001 and the R2 are both a set of generalrequirements that establish a Management System.
A Management System is an established way that acompany conducts its business operations to ensurecompliance to the various requirements.
ISO 14001 sets forth the requirementsfor ensuring sound environmentalpractices within the business.
R2 sets forth the practices for ensuringsound environmental, health and safetypractices of the business relevant toelectronics recycling.

ISO - General
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization)is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies(ISO member bodies). The work of preparingInternational Standards is normally carried out throughISO technical committees (ISO/TC). Each member body
interested in a subject for which a technical committeehas been established has the right to be represented onthat committee. International organizations,governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO,also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with
the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) onall matters of electrotechnical standardization.

ISO 14001 - General
ISO 14001 specifies requirements for an environmentalmanagement system to enable an organization to developand implement a policy and objectives which take intoaccount legal requirements and information aboutsignificant environmental aspects. It is intended to apply
to all types and sizes of organization and to accommodatediverse geographical, cultural and social conditions. Asystem of this kind enables an organization to develop anenvironmental policy, establish objectives and processesto achieve the policy commitments, take action as neededto improve its performance and demonstrate theconformity of the system to the requirements of ISO14001. The overall aim of ISO 14001 is to supportenvironmental protection and prevention of pollution inbalance with socio-economic needs.

R2 - General
The R2 sets forth responsible recycling (R2) practices foruse in accredited certification programs that assesselectronics recyclers environmental, health and safety,and security practices.
It provides a simple means of verifying that an electronics
recycling company is forthright and responsible about howit manages used and end-of-life electronic equipment.
Additionally, it provides electronics recyclers a means ofhighlighting their values and performance to customers.
The purpose of R2 is to develop a commonly accepted setof practices for the electronics recycling industry.
