Jihad Quotes from the Qur’an

“But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, And seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent (accept Islam) and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them; for God is oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Sunni Muslims Means “Beaten Path”

(follows traditions of the Prophet)

Majority (90%+) of Muslims

Reason for split: wanted to elect Caliph

Spiritual differences – Muslim leaders are human (make mistakes)

Shia Muslims Means “Faction” (supporters

of the prophet’s family) Minority (10%) of Muslims,

mainly in Iran Reason for split: wanted to

keep Caliph in Muhammad’s family

Spiritual difference – do not look to hadith for guidance; Muslim imams cannot make mistakes on Qur’anic issues
