Regency period

◦ Was queen regnant of Spain from 1833 until 1868. She came to the throne as an infant,

but her succession was disputed by the Carlists, who refused to recognise a female

sovereign, leading to the Carlist Wars. After a troubled reign, she was deposed in

the Glorious Revolution of 1868, and formally abdicated in 1870. Her son Alfonso

XII became king in 1874.

◦ When Isabel was three years old, her father Ferdinand VII died. The government : first

Isabel´s Mother, Maria Christina, and then General Espartero.

◦ This was a period of civil war in Spain known as the first Carlist War. This was ocurred

because of the problem of who should succeed to the throne.

The reign of Isabel II (1843-1868)

Isabel was declared of age when she was 13 years old.

When she birth 16 the government marry her to his cousin

"El infante Don Francisco de Asís de Borbón", the duque of

Cádiz. However their marriage wasn't happy at all because

they didn't get on well and she discovered that her husband

was gay. Even so they had ten kids but most of them were

born death or died a couple of days before they were born.
