Transcript of Is there hope for Philadelphia Eagles
Is There Hope for Philadelphia Eagles? Just like a ship, a football team needs a great Captain at the helm. Right now, the helm of the
Philadelphia Eagles is empty. The team has been searching for a head coach. There were some
movement this week in the search for a new Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach. But, is there hope for the
Philadelphia Eagles?
If you are following the search then you know there is no shortage of candidates. The Eagles have
spoken with several people. Among the list are Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin, Doug Pederson from the
Kansas City Chiefs, Tom Coughlin (former head coach of New York Giants), Bill Cowher (former coach
Pittsburgh Steelers), Jon Gruden (former coach Tampa Bay), and Adam Gase.
Well, the Philadelphia head office seems to be narrowing down their picks. Adam Gase took himself out
of consideration by taking a coaching position with Miami. Kevin Sumlin doesn’t seem to be interested.
After the list of candidates that either went somewhere else or are just not interested is over, there
seems to be two people left. Philly fans seem to either be getting Kansas City’s Doug Pederson or New
York’s Tom Coughlin.
So, do either of these candidates hold any hope for Philly fans?
Doug Pederson is no stranger to Philadelphia. As a player, Pederson quarterbacked with the Philadelphia
Eagles for nine games in the late nineties. His coaching career also started in Philadelphia. He was an
assistant to Andy Reid. After Reid went to the Chiefs, so did Pederson.
Tom Coughlin is rumored to be the 2nd candidate on the Eagles’ short list. He is a stark contrast to Doug
Pederson. This would be Doug’s first head coaching job. Tom is no stranger to leading an NFL team.
Coughlin is much older than Pederson. This gives him decades of coaching experience under his belt. His
last head coaching job was with the New York Giants.
While Pederson doesn’t have a head coaching record to stand on, Coughlin does. Over his 20 year
career, he has coached 320 games. 170 of these ended in a win. That puts his overall winning
percentage at 53%. He also has 2 Super Bowl Rings, 2 Conference Championships, and 5 Division
Championships to his name.
So, there certainly is hope for Philly fans. The question is whether or not the Eagles want to take a
chance on a young coach that is untested at the helm or go with a seasoned veteran. We cannot speak
for the head office. But, Coughlin has some big names hoping that he will soon get the job. This includes
legend Bill Parcells. We, along with the Philadelphia Sports community, eagerly await the outcome and
pray for great seasons ahead for the Eagles.
