Indian Standard

SETS FOR DRAWING

0. FO

INSTRUMENTS

REWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 20 August 1966, after the draft finalized by the Optical and Mathemati- cal Instruments Sectional Committee had been approved by the Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

0.2 Drawing instruments are normally sold in boxes consisting of an assortment of compasres, dividers, sprmg bows, inking pens, etc. The number and types of instruments supplied in the sets by different manu- facturers varies considerably. In order to rationalize the required number of instruments and to facilitate comparison, it is necessary to lay down the number of instruments for each set. However, it is not possible to have a cet which could cover all the requirements of elementarv drawing, as well as advanced technical drawings. For this reason, this standard specifics three sets which have been prepared with a view to optimum utility for the user.

0.3 The requirements of various drawing instruments are specified in relevant standards for each item. This standard is one of a series of Indian Standards being prepared for engineers’ drawing instruments. Other standards in the series are:

IS : 3206-1965 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, dividers

IS : 3207-1965 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, rotating compasses

IS : 3208-1965 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, half set of compasses

IS : 3209-l 965 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, spring hcnv compasses c

IS : 3210-1965 Specification for engineers’ dra\\-ing instr~ImcJlts,

drawing pen!:

IS : 32 1 l-1 965 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, pen points

IS : 3212-1965 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, lengthcziing bars

IS : 3220-1966 Specification for engineers’ drawing instruments, screw drivers

IS: 3222 ( Part I )- Specification for instrument screws : Part I Fasteners for drawing instruments ( under preparation )

0.4 In addition to the specified instruments in the general set, beam com- passes, protractors, set squares, transparent scale and parallel ruler may also be supplied in the lower compartment of the box.
