FOREWORD
This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Woodand Other Lignocellulosic Products Sectional Committee had been approved by the Civil EngineeringDivision Council.
Roofing is an essential ingredient of any house and in India several roof cladding materials are in use includingburnt clay/Mangalore tiles, thatch and corrugated sheet of galvanized iron, aluminium and asbestos. Of these, forsemi permanent structures corrugated sheets are preferred.
A need was felt for developing alternate eco-friendly, energy efficient and cost effective roofing sheets. Thisstandard on bamboo mat corrugated sheets ( BMCS ) has been formulated to provide guidance in respect ofmanufacture, testing and selection of such roofing sheets. These sheets have been found to be resistant to water, decay and fire. They are light but strong and possess high resilience and offer thermal comforts. In the preparationof this standard, considerable assistance has been rendered by IPIRTI, Bangalore.
The composition of the Committee responsible for the formulation of this standard is given at Annex J.
For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with1S2:1960 Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised). The number of significant places retained in therounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
