THE BLADETHE BLADE

Only steel from the best steel mills is used for IRWIN Plus saw blades.

We use cold rolled C75 steel that provides a rigid but flexible saw blade for maximum cutting performance.

C75 is a spring steel that will bend without deformation.

SHARPNESSSHARPNESS

The teeth of the IRWIN handsaws are sharpened in a unique grinding operation securing razor sharp cutting edges.

IRWIN handsaws cut with minimum effort and give a finer cut compared to saws with filed teeth.

Both the back and the front of the teeth are ground meaning hat the saw will cut on both the push and pull stroke.

A ground saw will stay sharp longer than a filed saw.

SETTING OF THE TEETHSETTING OF THE TEETH

The main purpose of a setting is to create clearance in the kerf and avoid the sawfrom binding in the material.

Setting can be done in more ways, the most common is a traditional left-right-left setting.

There are settings like our dynamic +40 setting that increases the cutting speed by 40% mainly because of an efficient removal of saw dust from the kerf.

A setting is usually from 0,2 - 0,4mm+40CONVENTIONAL

HARD POINTHARD POINT

All our hand saws (almost) come with hardened teeth.

The teeth are precision hardened to a hardness of app. 63 HRc.

Hardened teeth will keep their sharpness 6 - 8 times longer compared to saws with unhardened teeth.

Handsaws with unhardened teeth can unlike handsawswith hard point teeth be resharpened with a file.

Today, professionals hardly care about resharpening.Time is too valuable. Hand saws have become disposableItems.

SURFACE TREATMENT/RUST PROTECTIONSURFACE TREATMENT/RUST PROTECTION

All our IRWIN saws are protected against rust by a lacquer coatingproviding 4 times better rust protection than traditional lacquers.

Our rust protection is in the absolute top end of what is available on the market.

LOW FRICTION SURFACE TREATMENTLOW FRICTION SURFACE TREATMENT

All our IRWIN Xpert Super saws are protected against rust by a Low Friction coating containing P.T.F.E particles, better known as Teflon®1.

This coating is minimising the friction between saw and work piece.

As rust protection this coating is in the absolute top end of what is available on the market.

1) Teflon® is a registered brand name by Du Pont

HANDLEHANDLE

All IRWIN handsaws have handles designed with comfort in mind, as it is very important that you don’t have to compensate in your hand and arm for an unsuitable design or weight distribution.

It is our philosophy that practical design should, if possible, be combined with useful features. Therefore most of our handles have a 90° and 45° mitre feature.

All handles are made from light weight materials but still tough and durable.

We use ultrasonic welding for assembly of the main part of our products, an assembly method that over years have proven to be very efficient and reliable.

NUMBER OF TEETH/POINTSNUMBER OF TEETH/POINTS

The fineness/coarseness of the saw is expressed in either number of teeth per inch or number of points per inch . Many teeth/points per inch will give a fine cut. Few teeth/points per inch will give a coarse and faster cut.

A

Number of Teeth

A - Number of teeth are measured from gullet to gullet. Example A shows 5 teeth per inch

B

Number of Points

B - Number of points are measured from tooth point to tooth point. Example B shows 6 points per inch.

TOOTH CONFIGURATIONSTOOTH CONFIGURATIONS

The IRWIN handsaw programme offers four different tooth configurations:

UNIVERSAL TOOTHINGThis is the most common tooth type designed for cutting both across and along the grains of the wood:

The most sold blade configurationon the market.

The perfect choice for cutting a wide selection of materials.

Medium Toothing

Fine Toothing
