T¶was made into a national awardwinning movie of the same namein 1992 by Shyam Benegal.

If you are wondering what SurajKa Satwan Ghoda means thenBharati ji has described it in a very

beautiful manner.

As per him, despite of all thedarkness and sadness, there issomething that inspires to light up

the dark, lead to the good. The truth, faith and bravery leadthe soul to the light in the sameway the seven horses lead thechariot of the Sun.

Su raj ka Sat wa n G h od aIs con si dered a u n iqu e exper im en t in st ory tell ing

The chariot of the Sun has to moveforward, always. But it¶s destroyedduring its journey via the streets of our dark, corrupt, low-value and immorallives.

Except for the seventh horse, all the sixhorses have been severely injured.

The seventh horse is still brave, determined, focused and is movingahead continuously.

The seventh horse is the future. Bharati ji has co-related this seventh horse withthe children of his novel¶s characters.

He says these children, the newgeneration will lead us to the light andwe must have faith in this seventh horse.

Andha Yug focuses on the last dayof the Mahabharata war. Theramparts are in ruins, the city is

burning and Kurukshetra is

covered with corpses and vultures. The few bewildered survivors of the Kaurava clan are overcome bygrief and rage. Longing for one lastact of revenge, they refuse tocondemn Ashwatthama when hereleases the ultimate weapon, the

brahmastra, which threatens toannihilate the world. Instead, they

blame Krishna for having causedthe war, and curse him.

And ha Y u g Acknowledged as a mi le st one in H ind i liter at u re

y One of the most significant plays of post-IndependenceIndia, Dharamvir Bharati's Andha Yug raises pertinentmoral issues in the context of Partition-related atrocities.

y The figure of Krishna is central to the narrative. Herepresents the infinite variety of ways in which the goodmanifests itself in the ordinary world. He is the man of

justice and truth.y The Kauravas, however, are unable to imagine the truth

about Krishna.y This failure of imagination becomes the cause of their final

undoing.

y Based in the northern Kerala town of Kozhikode (Calicut ),Mathrubhumi (circulation 1995: 5,35,000) was founded in1923 in the aftermath of Gandhi's non-cooperationmovement as a public limited company.

y This status makes it rare among newspapers, which tend to be closely held private companies owned by a singlefamily.

y Mathrubhumi's ownership has proved controversial, and the

struggles to control it illustrate the extent to which languageand newspapers affect the emotions and politics of largenumbers of people.
