Services to 64 top quality stallions were purchased

on Saturday January 5 during the “live” session of the annual IQHRA Stallion Service Auction. Those

purchases totaled just over $92,000 to set a new first day record for the stallion service auction.

PYC Paint Your Wagon (shown below), the leading sire by money earned in 2012, who stands at Royal

Vista Ranches, commanded the highest sale price at

$10,100.

Services to over 100 other stallions will be available for minimum bid until May 31 on a "first come, first

served" basis. Check the IQHRA web site regularly to

see which services remain available!

Members Elect John Lawless, Jim Harvey, Dick Tobin, and Bob Urich To New Terms

Veteran horsemen John Lawless, Jim Harvey, Dick Tobin, and Bob Urich will serve three-year terms –through 2015– on the IQHRA Board Of Directors. Additionally, the membership elected Butch Wessels as first alternate and Cindy McIntosh as second alternate. The new electees join Don Rayner, Terry Thorson, Bob Moore, Leonard Reed (through 2013) and Bob Brown, Ken Denning, Mark Guy, Shirley Peiffer (through 2014) on the board. Tom Lepic (President) and Butch Bain (Vice President) will continue in their executive positions through 2013.

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who attended this year’s annual meeting and

Stallion Service Auction. As you may already be aware, the four members who received the

most votes for the 2013 board positions were Jim Harvey, John Lawless, Dick Tobin, and Bob

Urich. They will serve three year positions on the board through 2015.

Our Stallion Service Auction is already record setting! As of press time, we were approaching

$105,000 gross income in sales. This is fantastic and I want to thank everyone for their

support! Our 2016 Double Gold Futurity will be tremendous, with nearly 100 eligible stallions.

Jill Paxton from the Department of Agriculture/Horse Breeding reported great news for our

industry. As of the first of the year, 147 Quarter Horse mares have already been inspected. Jill

estimates that the number of quarter horse foals in Iowa for 2013 could nearly double from

2012. This is amazing and a true testament to the growth of our Iowa program.

The 2013 tentative racing schedule has been released by Chad Keller, Prairie Meadows QH

racing secretary, and is available online at www.prairiemeadows.com. Also, John Hernandez

continues to update the IQHRA website with important dates and news. If you haven’t already,

take time to view this at www.iqhra.com.

Soon, Janet Rinehart will be sending out the nomination forms for all of our 2013 stakes races.

Links to these forms will also be posted on the association’s web site as soon as possible.

I want to wish everyone the best of luck in this year’s racing season at Prairie Meadows, as

well as all of you who run your horses at Remington Park, Canterbury Park, or any other tracks

prior to the start of our season in August at Prairie Meadows.

National Champions Won

At Prairie Meadows! Rylees Boy

Aged Gelding & Aged Horse

After winning the Champion of Champions (G1), Rylees Boy earns his second consecutive nod as

champion aged gelding and also picks up a win as

champion aged horse.

Racing for Lorena Velazquez Rodriguez of Surprise,

Arizona, he won four of seven starts in 2012, with

earnings of $609,685. He he also won the Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at

Prairie Meadows and Bank of America Sunland Championship Challenge (G2).

Fredaville Aged Mare

Champion aged mare Fredaville picks up another title for her owner and breeder, the late Robert

Gentry of Lubbock, Texas.

The 6YO mare won three of seven starts in 2012, with one second and three thirds, while earning

$131,920. She won the Merial Distaff Challenge

Championship (G1) at Prairie Meadows, the Merial Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge (G3) and the

Merial Remington Distaff Challenge.

All About Larry Distance

All About Larry smoked his competition on his way to his nod as champion distance horse.

Owned by Diane Heath of Cochise, Arizona, the 5YO gelding won six of eight starts in 2012 with

one second and earnings of $144,490.

He won the Red Cell Distance Challenge

Championship (G1) at Prairie Meadows , Red Cell Lone Star Distance Challenge, Master Salls

Handicap and SunRay Park Marathon.
