Vanto della città e dell’intero Alto Adige, l’ippo-dromo di Merano è un impianto di rara bellezza e teatro ippico di valore internazionale. La sua distesa verde smeraldo è incorniciata dal pa-esaggio urbano che prelude alle vette alpine: è lo scenario dove si disputa la massima parte della stagione italiana delle corse a ostacoli, la più spettacolare ed entusiasmante delle specia-lità ippiche.

Pride of the city and of the whole Alto Adige, the racecourse of Merano is a sportsfield of rare beauty and a horseracing venue of international standing. Its emerald green expanse is framed by the urban scenery of the spa town, leading the way towards to the Alpine peaks beyond. The racecourse is the venue of most of the Ital-ian steeplechase races, the most spectacular and exciting of all equestrian events.

Der Pferderennplatz Meran, ein Aushängeschild der Stadt und des gesamten Landes Südtirol, ist nicht nur eine Anlage von besonderer Schön-heit, sondern auch ein Rennplatz von interna-tionaler Bedeutung. Seine weite, grüne Fläche ist umgeben von der Kurstadt und leitet zu den alpinen Gipfeln über. Meran ist der Aus-tragungsort des Großteils der Rennen im itali-enischen Hindernisrennsport. Hindernisrennen sind die Königsdisziplin des Pferderennsports und begeistern durch ihre Spektakularität und Spannung die Massen.

Merano è terra di cavalli e corse. Le prime risal-gono al 1896, e già nel 1900 venne realizzato il primo impianto ippico. L’odierno ippodromo fu costruito nel 1935 e in quello stesso anno si disputò il primo Gran Premio Merano. La presti-giosa corsa è stata per lungo tempo abbinata alla Lotteria nazionale, accrescendone la popo-larità. Ieri come oggi, Merano è punto d’incon-tro dell’ippica europea, nonché unico ippodro-mo italiano membro della Crystal Cup, circuito internazionale di corse a ostacoli.

Merano has always been a land of horses and racing. The first races were held here as far back as 1896, and the racecourse was established at first in 1900. The racecourse as we know it today was laid out in 1935, and the Gran Premio Mer-ano was raced for the first time in the same year. The prestigious race was linked for a long time to the National Lottery and this contributed in no small part to its great popularity. Today, as in the past, Merano is a horseracing hub in Europe and Italy’s only member racecourse of the Crys-tal Cup, an international steeplechase series.

THE HISTORY

Meran ist seit jeher eng mit den Pferden und ihren Rennen verbunden. Die ersten von ihnen wurden im Jahre 1896 ausgetragen und 1900 entstand die erste Pferdesportanlage. Der der-zeitige Rennplatz wurde 1935 erbaut und im selben Jahr kam der 1. Große Preis von Meran zur Austragung. Die Koppelung mit der gleich-namigen Lotterie trug wesentlich zur Populari-tät des Rennens bei. Heute wie früher ist Meran einer der bedeutendsten mitteleuropäischen Rennplätze. Er ist auch Mitglied der bekannten Hindernisserie des Crystal Cups.

La presentazione dei cavalli, l’arrivo dei fantini, le fasi della partenza. E poi i cavalli lanciati al galoppo, la volata finale, il traguardo, l’esultan-za. Ogni corsa del pomeriggio è un crescendo di emozioni, in un ambiente nel quale eleganza e mondanità si accordano a un’atmosfera festosa e informale.

The presentation of the horses, the arrival of the jockeys in the parade ring, the preparations for the start; the horses setting off at full gallop, the final sprint, the finishing line, the jubilation of the winners... The afternoon race is a never-end-ing crescendo of emotions in an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication merged with infor-mal festivities.

Die Vorstellung der Pferde, die Ankunft der Rei-ter im Vorführring, die Startvorbereitung, die Pferde im gestreckten Galopp, der spannende Schlussspurt, der Zieleinlauf und der Jubel des Siegers: jedes Rennen des Nachmittags bietet eine Folge von besonderen Emotionen in ei-nem Ambiente, das Eleganz und Mondanität mit einer festlichen und zugleich lockeren At-mosphäre vereint.

Vi si trovano un ristorante, snack-bar e champagne-corner.

Ein Ausflug auf den Rennplatz bietet die Mög-lichkeit einen unvergesslichen Tag mit der Fa-milie oder mit Freunden in einer grünen Oase inmitten der Stadt zu verbringen. Die weitläu-fige Anlage bietet schattige Flächen zum Ver-weilen bei Live – Music und verschiedenen An-geboten. Hier finden Sie ein Restaurant, eine Snack – Bar und eine Champagnerie.

A day at the races is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the green hues of nature without having to leave town, and to enjoy an unforget-table day with friends or family. The vast open spaces of the racecourse include a number of shaded areas where you can relax and enjoy the live music and other amenities on offer. The racecourse also features a restaurant, a snackbar and a champagne bar.

Il Gran Premio Merano Alto Adige è la corsa a ostacoli più ricca (montepremi di 250.000 euro) e pre-stigiosa d’Italia. Altre corse di assoluto valore danno vita, l’ultimo fine settimana di settembre, a un meeting per il quale si danno appuntamento scuderie, cavalli e fantini provenienti da varie nazioni. Personalità, moda, esclusività ed eventi di contorno fra le quali l’anteprima del Merano WineFestival fanno del Gran Premio uno degli eventi di maggior richiamo della regione.

Der Große Preis Meran Südtirol ist mit einem Preisgeld von 250.000 Euro nicht nur das bestdotierte Hindernisrennen in Italien, sondern auch das prestigeträchtigste des gesamten Rennkalenders. Am letzten Septemberwochenende bilden weitere hochklassige Rennen den Rahmen für ein Rennsport - Meeting mit Besitzern, Jockeys und Pferden aus vielen Nationen. With a first prize of € 250,000, the Gran Premio Merano Südtirol is the richest steeplechase in Italy, and also one of the most prestigious dates on the racing calendar. Comprising a number of high-ranking races, the event takes place during the last weekend in September and draws in stables, horses and jockeys from numerous nations. Prominent guests, elegance, exclusivity and a fringe program which includes the Merano Wine Festival make the Gran Prix one of the most popular events in the region.

Il legame fra territorio e ippodromo trova una delle principali espressioni nelle corse dei ca-valli Haflinger. Icona dell’Alto Adige, originario della val Venosta e dalla denominazione che deriva da Avelengo/Hafling, località sopra Me-rano, l’Haflinger sin dalla fine dell’Ottocento è protagonista di competizioni che più volte du-rante la stagione si disputano anche contestual-mente alle giornate di corse dei purosangue. In due occasioni, la platea è tutta per loro e per le manifestazioni di folklore: il Lunedì di Pasqua e a metà ottobre.

Die enge Bindung zwischen dem Territorium und dem Rennplatz findet in den Rennen der Haflingerpferde ihren besonderen Ausdruck. Ursprünglich im Vinschgau gezüchtet und nach dem oberhalb von Meran gelegenen Hafling benannt, stand das Haflingerpferd am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bereits als Akteur bei den verschiedensten Rennveranstaltungen im Land im Einsatz. Auf dem Pferderennplatz gehören die Rennen der blondmähnigen einheimischen Pferde an verschiedenen Renntagen zum Pro-gramm. Ihnen allein und der Folklore gehört die Bühne zwei Mal im Jahre: am Ostermontag und bei den Herbstrennen Mitte Oktober.

Nowhere can the bond between the territory and horseracing be seen more clearly than in Hafling-er races. The Haflinger was originally bred in Val Venosta and is named for the village of Ave-lengo/Hafling, just above Merano. Haflingers have been racing in a wide variety of equestrian events throughout the area since the end of the 19th century. The blonde-maned Haflinger takes the races at a wide variety of events during the season, and on two dates, the stage is theirs and theirs alone: the thoroughbred races on Easter Monday and in mid-October, when the crowds gather just to see the Haflinger horses and the folklore exhibitions.

Gli stage della Scuola sono un’opportu-nità per tutti coloro che si vogliano avvicinare al mondo dell’ippica, sia per farne una professio-ne, sia per mettersi alla prova in questo sport meraviglioso.Altro settore di attività ospitato dalla struttura è quello dell’ippoterapia.

Der Pferderennplatz Meran und seine Füh-rungsgesellschaft, die Meran Galopp GmbH, sind Partner der Scuola Ippica Italiana, einer Einrichtung, die sich um die sportliche und pro-fessionelle Ausbildung aller Beteiligten im Pfer-desport kümmert. Die Lehrgänge der Schule bieten all jenen eine Gelegenheit, welche sich dem Pferdesport annähern wollen. Dies ent-weder um diesen Sport als Beruf zu ergreifen, oder sich einfach in ihm messen zu wollen.Ein weiterer Bereich, der in der Struktur unter-gebracht ist, ist die Hyppotherapie.

The racecourse and its racing society, Merano Galoppo, are partners of the Scuola Ippica Ital-

iana, an institute devoted to the education and training of all the people who operate in this field. The apprenticeships in this school are an opportunity for all those who may want to approach the racing world, be it professionally or to just try themselves out at this wonderful sport.Within the racecourse there is also an area dedi-cated to equine assisted therapy.
