The role of betting in fixing an IPL match

Betting rates will go high when two good teams clash each other.

Example:Suppose a team X is going to win according to the current form of

playing batsmen. Immediately we can see somebody signals from the dressing room. Another player of the team will run to the ground as if to change bat, or new glove or sometimes with a bottle of water. You can see small murmuring happens between the playing batsmen and the player came from Dressing room (Pavilion). Within minutes, we will witness that the match will turn upside down. This is happening in all forms of cricket, even in international cricket also.

How does Lalit Modi earns?

• Scams Done by Lalit Modi:

• Mr. Lalit Modi Increased the limits of bidding on players by each Franchise and also the time limit of bidding as compared to initial stage. This incurred lot of money to Lalit Modi

• He was also involved and encouraged “Match Fixing”.

• In 2009 Mr. Modi was alleged to have offered US$ 50 Million to the Kochi franchisee to go back and give their franchisee to the Ahmedabad Team in order to gain more profits from this transaction.

Page 15: IPL –ENTERTAINMENT OR SPORTS final ppt 2

• Lalit Modi had equity stake or unknown equity stake in almost every franchisee directly or indirectly through his relatives and friends which was against the rule of IPL Game ( i.e. No single member of Board of Members can involve or have stake in franchisee of IPL Team directly or indirectly). Also some Sweat equity stake ( equity share paid for some kind of hard work) were also given to Lalit Modi

• Other scam are betting, match fixing, money laundering , other scams, etc.
