Melody Woodnutt is the Director of Nes Artist Residency in Iceland. Melody´s artistic direction of the residency is grounded in visible, immersive, and engaged arts practice. Her aim is to establish sustainability in a remote context and foster innovative arts on the periphery.

Judy Thomas is an artist and teacher and was an artist-in-residence at NES during the Icelandic summer of 2013, an experience she described at ‘harmonious’ and ‘chaotic’. Judy Thomas worked directly with the school to teach through photography.

On 18 September 2013, Judy interviewed Melody on the subjects of ‘the artist as facilitator’ and ‘art practice on the perifory.’ The links below include a transcript of their conversation and their subsequent responses and reflections.
