What you should do:

Talk in a quiet, private place.

Never talk about personal matters in front of other campers.

Use body language.

Use leading questions.

Look interested.

1. Respect each other (Keep all hands, feet, and other objects to yourself).

2. Respect camp staff (listen).

3. Respect camp property.

4. Respect the building.

5. Be a good sport.

Discipline

Find a balance Correct immediately. Talk with your kids early and each week.

1st offense – warning

2nd offense – 1st time out

3rd offense – Longer time out + Trip to the camp office; Fill out discipline form

4th offense – Parent/Coordinator meeting + 2nd discipline form

5th offense – Suspension or expulsion.

Physical punishment or withholding food from a child is NEVER an acceptable form of punishment and may result in suspension or termination.

Social Media Policy

You are prohibited from:

Posting on social media during camp hours (minus lunch break).

Posting any photos, videos, or direct references of minors on any social media outlet at ANY TIME.

Keep in mind:

Despite privacy settings, there are many ways people can gain access to your posts.

Any posts detrimental to UC, the CRC, or camp may be reviewed and dealt with accordingly.

Play inappropriate music in front of campers.

Stress winning over sportsmanship.

Clearly express favoritism over certain children.

Counselors Should…

Confine campers when giving directions (i.e. sit on the red line, inside the circle).

Have a plan B.

BE LOUD!

Make an effort to learn every child’s name.

Give campers incentives to learn others’ names.

Employ camper helpers as much as possible (and positively reinforce!).

Be fair.

Respect campers and staff.

Being hung-over is not a valid excuse, and you will be written up and/or terminated.

Vacation time must be approved at the beginning of the summer. Once the summer starts, vacation requests may not be approved.
