Pyroelectric detectors
• Pyroelectric detectors aremadefromasinglecrystallinewaferofapyroelectric material,suchastriglycerine sulfate.Whenanelectricfieldisappliedacrossapyroelectric material,electricpolarizationoccurs(thishappensinanydielectricmaterial).Inapyroelectricmaterial,whenthefieldisremoved,thepolarizationpersists.Thedegreeofpolarizationistemperaturedependent.So,bysandwichingthepyroelectric materialbetweentwoelectrodes,atemperaturedependentcapacitorismade.TheheatingeffectofincidentIRradiationcausesachangeinthecapacitanceofthematerial.Pyroelectric detectorshaveafastresponsetime.TheyareusedinmostFouriertransformIRinstruments.
