Introduction
Ergonomics can be defined simply as the study of work. More
specifically, Ergonomics is the science of designing the job to fit the worker,
rather than physically forcing the worker’s body to fit the job. Adapting tasks,
work stations, tools and equipment to fit the worker can help reduce physical
stress on a worker’s body and eliminate many potentially serious, disabling
work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
It will be clear already that the benefits of Ergonomics can appear in
many different forms in productivity and quality, in safety and health, in
reliability, in job satisfaction, and in personal development. The reason for
this breadth of scope is that its basic aim is efficiency in purposeful activity.
However, designing is not only about fitting it to the user but also considering
the job or activity being done, its size, shape, and how appropriate it is for
the task. Furthermore, through the application of Ergonomics it was designed
to reduce stress and fatigue, discomfort, and reduce the reach and move
times of the user.
One of the jobs of an Industrial Engineer is designing, improving, and
analyzing a certain problem in an industry. As future Industrial Engineers, the
application of Ergonomics could help the proponents to have an experience
or how to design a workstation, controls and displays, tools, lighting and
equipment.
Ergonomics is very important especially for the Industrial Engineering
students for them to apply in their field such as designing a work station for

the workers to work efficiently and effectively. As a result, the workers will be
productive producing quality products which can lead to higher productivity.
1. Introduction
As an Industrial engineer, one of its essential roles is to design a
workstation in which provides maximum productivity with minimal cost. It
considers a lot of integrated factors such as if the person is perfectly fitted
to its job and its workstation. The job must be safer and useful to the
worker and yields efficiency. To achieve these, industrial engineer applies
ergonomic solution to make workers comfortable and suited for the job
and leads to increase productivity.
Successful ergonomically designed workstations determined by
different properties such as work tasks, work postures, and work activities
which are mainly influence by the workstation conditions, furniture and
other equipment, and by the environment. It also reduces accidents by
cutting down risk factors. To fit the worker to the job can help ease the
physical stress on a worker’s body and eradicate many potentially serious,
disabling work related disorders. Recognizing these risk factors is an
essential first step to improving the user’s protections.
Ergonomic designed furniture matches the activity of the person’s
capabilities and limitations. It centers mainly with the user’s body size and
shape, body posture, and fitness and strength. Although workers come in

different sizes, this is where Ergonomics alleviate the task and make the
job comfortable for the individual worker.
The earnest desire of this study is to create ergonomically designed
furniture that guarantees a comfortable, suitable, multi-functional and
user-friendly product.
