Introducing... ellie knight F rom sitting in her teenage room singing on YouTube to performing all over England in front of 5000 people. Ellie Knight, 18, gained much attention when noticed by famous chart sing- er Rita Ora who shared her cover of ‘Naïve/The Kooks’ on twitter for her 4 million followers. In- stantly her YouTube began getting more popular and the views rolled in and so her singing journey be- gan. She has risen to fame in just a matter of a few months, so Down- load decided it was time to meet this beautiful young lady. So how does it feel to be suddenly performing to thousands of people a night? It’s a dream come true, still cannot come to terms with the fact I’m living out my dream and espe- cially because of Rita! I mean how cool *she giggles* I mean going from recording a small cover of my favourite songs in my bedroom to working with famous producers on my own music and touring, what’s not to love? I still get nervous performing in front of big audi- ences but I think I’m getting used to the idea of it. How did it feel when you saw Rita Ora had shared your video to over 4 million people? I was at school and only a few people knew about my YouTube channel. I got a text from one of my friends while I was in maths, it said ‘Quick check Rita Ora’s twit- ter!!! Its important’ Well I thought it was just going to be a new tour or new single which got me excited anyway be- cause me and my friends had always been a fan of her. So obviously I checked her twitter and there was my video! Almost fell off my seat! I had no idea what to do because no one knew I even sang. Rita Ora noticed me quiet Ellie Knight! It’s just crazy! From then on my views and subscribers just contin- ues to grow and grow. My mum started getting phone calls from music labels and producers wanting to meet me and work with me. So I did, I met up with Rita and her agent, and here I am now… You said you’re working on your own music that must be exciting! What are you inspirations for your songs? I guess because I’m a teenage girl people expect me to write cheesy songs on boys and breakups, how- ever I don’t want my music to be cheesy I want people to relate to it and actually connect with the songs. My favourite song from my EP ‘The Beginning’ is the song ‘Falling’. This song however is about a boy, an old boy who moved away a while back. Its mostly about falling into the words they say instead of the actions they make and the mistakes that come with that. People will probably compare me to other artists like Taylor Swift or what not for writing about boys. Well come on, most songs are about love and I am a girl after all *another small giggle* Although every song on my EP means something to me and took so much time to write and produced because I wanted it to be perfect and have nothing to say ‘I wish I did this differently’ Do you have any inspirations in themusic industry or people you would love to work with in the future? I would love to work with Nina Nesbitt; I feel as artists we are very similar in song writing and personal style. I remember watcing her first covers and songs and thinking how amazing she is. I also love Jessie J her voice is incredible! The things she stands up for and her ideas I think are great and just is someone I would love to produce song with. How have you dealt with the sud- den rise to fame and people around you? It’s been hard I’m not going to lie. People suddenly knowing my name and knowing everything about me was weird I must admit. Al- though most people have been so supportive others not so much. I’ve had hate comments, threats and just jealous people coming at me. I try to brush off the hate and concentrate on my music. I love that people can listen to my music and relate to me and I’ve had girls asking me that they now want to be singers and try and make it big, I love that! Like coming to London today and having people shout my name in the street is so surreal, don’t think I will ever really get used to it. People as me how I got into music etc. I struggle to truly answer it, I just knew. I got a guitar at 10 years old and ever since that I’ve just wanted to sing and perform. Well thankyou Ellie! Been love- ly speaking to you and getting to know your journey! Aw thankyou, its been great, thanks for having me here. “Rita Ora noticed me quiet Ellie Knight!” “I try to brush off the hate and concentrate on my music.” World exclusive interview with upcoming teenage artist; Ellie Knight. So how does it feel to be suddenly performing to thousands of people a night? It’s a dream come true, still cannot come to terms with the fact I’m living out my dream and espe-cially because of Rita! I mean how cool *she giggles* I mean going from recording a small cover of my favourite songs in my bedroom to working with famous producers on my own music and touring, what’s not to love?
