The tourism organizations consists of international, national, and non-governmental organizations that help develop and manage tourism. They may be into education and training, marketing, regulations, investment, environmental management, or socio-cultural programs.
There are also several tourism organization that play significant roles in tourism industry . the organization influence and contribute to the smooth running of the tourism industry

WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION
• Founded in 1978• Formerly known as International Union of Official Travel
Organization• Since 2006 the WTO renamed as United Nation World
Tourism Organization (UNWTO)• UNWTO is a specialized agency of the United Nations.• Headquarters located in Madrid, Spain• It also serves as a global forum for tourism policy issues
and plays a central role in promoting responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the needs of developing countries.
Activities
• It conducts research studies for the tourism market• It organizes seminars and conferences on issue such as
aviation, infrastructure development, planning and marketing that are shared by many countries
• It gathers information on tourism, which include statistical facilities, special events, regulation and legislations.
• It collects, analyses, and disseminates information on various aspects of tourism
• It prepares drafts for international agreements on tourism.• It provide updated information .
INTERNATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION
• World’s first international scheduled services(IATA) started, it formerly known as International Air Traffic Association.
• IATA founded in Havana, Cuba.
• In 1945 it has changed its name to the International Air Transport Association
• IATA is closely associated with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
• It helps in global planning of international timetables.
• It has formulated a single formula for tickets and airway bills.
Activities• It simplifies the travel and shipping processes, while keeping
costs down.• It allows them to operates safely, securely, efficiently, and
economically under clearly defined rules.• It seeks to ensure they are well informed about the
complexities of the aviation industry.• IATA also serves as an intermediary between airlines and
passengers as well as cargo agents. • IATA provide solid expertise to airlines in a variety of industry
solutions.• It helps to regulate legal questions of general concern in order
to develop security measures.• It helps in training of travel and freight agents.
UNITED FEDERATION OF TRAVEL AGENTS ASSOCIATION
• United Federation of Travel Agents Association (UFTAA) founded on 1966 in Rome.
• Earlier known as Universal Federation of Travel Agents Association.
• Founded by merger of two large world organization IFTA and UOTAA
• It offers its members all the necessary material, professional and technical advice, and assistance to enable them to take their proper place in the economy of worl tourism
Functions
• It unites and consolidates the federation of travel agent’s National Association to enhance and promote the interest of the members.
• It represents the travel agent’s activities before the various world bodies, govt authorities and suppliers.
• It assists through its education committee.
• it lobbies to oppose legislations which are directly harmful to tourism
• It acts as an information and investigation center.
PACIFIC ASIA TRAVEL ASSOCIATION• The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) was founded in
1951.
• PATA is a non-profit travel industry association.
• PATA focus its attention on travel opportunities in the member countries and develop awareness among the travel trade.
• Headquarters of PATA in Bangkok.
• The main aim of PATA is developing , promoting, and facilitating travel to and within in the Pacific areas and South- East Asian region

• PATA provide information and practical assistance in the field of tourism
• It assists upcoming destination to develop their infrastructure
• It serves as a central source of information and guidelines.
• It helps the members in marketing.
• It organize an annual travel mart
AMERICAN SOCIETY OF TRAVEL AGENTS • The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) established in
New York in1931
• It is the world’s largest professional travel trade association.
• Earlier it was known as American Steamship and Tourist Agent’s Association( ASTAA)
• Aim is the promotion and advancement of the interest of travel industry and safeguarding of the traveller.
• It promote the ethical practice in tourism industry.
