Starting point/brief

Cooperation between the Turkish Ministry ofLabour and Social Security – Directorate Generalfor Occupational Health and Safety –and ISSA Mining with the goal of improving workplace safety in Turkish mining operations

Preamble

Turkey's Ministry of Labour and Social Security, re presented by the Directorate General for Occupational Health and Safety, and the Mining Section of the International Social Security Association agree to work together in a joint initiative with the aim of supporting all employees in the field of mining in Turkey and promoting the profitability of mining op erations. The collaboration takes place on the basis of mutual appreciation, op en communication and a common understanding. Its goal is the open exchange of knowledge, experience and sound practical solutions between everyone invo lved.

Approach taken by the workgroup

� Works management teams and experts from the TTK mines listed below engage in structured meetings and discussions which are based on a checklist drawn up in line with international requirements (ILO/ISSA guidelines, OHSAS 18001, SCC…): December 2010 to February 2011

Conclusions for ISSA Mining

� The tools developed by ISSA Mining for auditing mines (checklists, recommendations) have been successfully deployed and further developed at TTK

� The ISSA Mining tools for auditing mines can be used as an international independent standard

� Following induction training, audits based on these tools can continue to be performed by national auditors/teams

� ISSA Mining offers these tools and support for their introduction worldwide
