Medical journal claims vitamins are waste of

money, harmful and have no health benefits

In mid-December, three highly

negative research articles and an

editorial on vitamin and mineral

supplements were published in the

Annals of Internal Medicine.

Summarizing the research articles,

the editorial – entitled “Enough Is

Enough: Stop Wasting Money on

Vitamin and Mineral Supplements”

– claimed that supplements are

harmful, ineffective, and may

increase mortality. It concluded

that “the case is closed...vitamins

should not be used for chronic

disease prevention. Enough is

enough.”

Global media propaganda started immediately:

“Multivitamins should not be used”

The global media was

quick to respond and

claimed, emphatically, that

multivitamins should not

be used. The article to the

left, published at

Forbes.com, typified the

media’s knee-jerk

reporting.

Vitamin E may help slow down

onset of dementia

Daily doses of vitamin E may help slow

down the onset of dementia, a new study

has indicated. In a study of 613 people

with mild or moderate symptoms of

dementia, those who were given a large

dose of vitamin E supplements each day

experienced a slower decline in their

condition than those who were given a

placebo. The research was published in

the Journal of the American Medical

Association.

High dose B vitamins help

prevent Alzheimer’s

A new study published in The

Proceedings of the National Academy of

Sciences suggests that a high dose of B

vitamins could stop the onset of

Alzheimer’s by preventing shrinkage of

the medial temporal lobe, the area of the

brain that defines the disease.

New evidence suggests that taking

vitamin B supplements may help reduce

the risk of stroke. The research appears in

Coenzyme Q10 slashes

deaths from heart failure

Coenzyme Q10 is being hailed as the

biggest thing to slash deaths from heart

failure in the past 10 years. Researchers

are so convinced by the results they say

the pills should be added to standard

treatment. In the study, presented at the

Heart Failure Congress in Lisbon,

Portugal, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

supplements were found to HALVE the

number of deaths in heart patients from

all causes.

Multivitamins with minerals may protect older

women with invasive breast cancer

Findings from a study involving

thousands of postmenopausal women

suggest that women who develop

invasive breast cancer may benefit from

taking supplements containing

multivitamins and minerals. The research,

published in Breast Cancer Research and

Treatment, found that the risk of dying

from invasive breast cancer was 30

percent lower among multivitamin/mineral

users compared with nonusers.

Even drug company Pfizer now admits that

multivitamins may cut cancer risk

Daily supplements of multivitamins may

reduce the risk of cancer by 8%, says a

new study published in the Journal of the

American Medical Association.

(Source: nutraingredients-usa.com, October 17, 2012).

The multivitamin used in this study was

manufactured by Pfizer, the world’s largest

drug company, with funding provided by

BASF, one of the world’s largest chemical

companies. Through only giving a single low-

level dose of nutrients daily, the reduction of

cancer risk achieved in the study was

essentially guaranteed to be modest.

Independent studies conducted in

the United States, Canada, the

United Kingdom, the Netherlands

and many other countries show

that the nutrient content of our

Some evidence suggests that,

this problem had already existed

for several generations.

One of the biggest secrets in the drug industry

is that pharmaceutical drugs deplete the body

of vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients.

A remarkable book published in 1999 and

authored by a pharmacist and clinical

nutritionist, Ross Pelton PhD, brought this

issue to wider attention. Citing 459 published

studies on the subject, Pelton and his team of

medical experts identified around 150 classes

of drugs that cause nutrient depletion.

Drug-induced nutrient depletion

reach $1.2 trillion by 2017

A study published by IMS Health in

on drugs will exceed $1 trillion in 2014

and rise to $1.2 trillion by 2017.

Global spending on drugs was already

$965 billion in 2012 – just a fraction short

Drugmakers suffer decline in trust,

report says

The overall corporate reputation of

pharmaceutical companies declined in

2012 compared to 2011, according to an

independent study by patients'

organisations. The study, funded by

PatientView, a European organization

representing 600 patient groups, focused

on patients' impressions on the corporate

Survey finds most people feel pharma companies

see cancer as making-money opportunity

A survey released in February found that

most people feel pharma companies see

cancers as a making-money opportunity

rather than as a blight to eradicate.

Sponsored by Lilly Oncology, the survey

polled more than 4,000 people in the UK,

US, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

60% of respondents said they believed

pharma manufacturers are more

interested in treating cancer than curing

it.

some cases billions – in savings,
