DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THIS EQUIPMENT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

HAVE BEEN READ AND UNDERSTOOD

CAUTION LOOK BEFORE YOU CUT OR WELD : When welding to the chassis use care to avoid damaging any of the chassis equipment. This equipment includes wiring, fuel, brake, hydraulic and/or compressed air lines. Always check the opposite side of the welding surface for anything that could be damaged by the heat and sparks from the welding also including the RV’s chrome and paint.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

CAUTION DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES: Prior to welding on the chassis frame disconnect house and chassis batteries, any microprocessor controlled electronics such as engine monitoring devices and other sensitive electronics the RV may be equipped with must also be disconnected / both power feed and ground connections.

Failure to disconnect any of these components can cause damage to the devices and void their warranty.

For better protection: When welding it is always best to keep moving the welding ground cable as close to your work as possible.

Installation of this lift requires welding and metal fabrication.

The lift’s two frame assembly brackets must be welded or bolted directly to the chassis frame by a experienced certified welder.

If your RV chassis is extended you must verify (where assembled to the original chassis of the RV) the connection and the added-on frame is strong enough to hold the additional load. If this is not strong enough metal fabricating a reinforcement may be required to the original chassis of the RV’s frame, consult your certified welder / trailer hitch builder. Never install skid wheels to the Hydralift body.

DO NOT install the HL Platform Lift on any 5th wheel, Class C, Gas Chassis or Travel Trailer.

Every installation is a custom fit depending on the RV’s body and chassis. It is your responsibility to verify the vehicles own towing and weight carrying capacities.

DO NOT install the Hydralift frame saddle brackets to trailer hitch receivers. The Hydralift frame brackets must be installed as a permanent (fixed) installation for maximum pay load and tow ratings. The lift will still be removable but the frame brackets will not.

After installation of your Hydralift motorcycle lift and each and every time before towing a trailer, car etc. (it is your responsibility) you must verify that their will be sufficient clearance between the lift and any towed vehicle, allowing for turning, driveways, dips etc. The Hydralift HLT comes with a receiver extension Hydralift does not recommend extending or adding to the Hydralift HLAPS supplied receiver extension. With some tow bars a replacement extended mount maybe available if additional clearances is needed, check with your tow-bar company.

Find the vehicles frame and verify the strength of the frame: Is the vehicles frame one continues frame to the rear. Most Bus & Class A chassis

Is the vehicles frame sectioned (two piece), if yes the HLTL may not be applicable for your coach’s chassis.

Park the RV on level ground. With the engine running and suspension aired up measure 21” from the ground to the rear of the RV, place a piece of tape to mark at the 21” mark. Do Not Install the Hydralift under the RV Body, Like a Trailer Hitch Receiver. Hydralift installs outside the body at a 21” installed height (to the bottom of the Hydralift 4” frame tube body).

On all platform lifts the install must be at the 21” desired height with the suspension aired up. When using the Hydralift you will

dump the air in the suspension to lower the angle of the lift to the ground and adding clearance for loading and unloading cargo.

DO NOT REMOVE THE STOCK TRAILER HITCH RECEIVER. The stock trailer hitch receiver will be used as an additional safety attachment for the HL Platform Lift install. If you have to remove the stock trailer hitch receiver to gain access to the chassis frame to install the Hydralift frame saddles or reinforce the chassis frame reinstall the trailer hitch receiver by modifying the receiver to fit your application. Questions call or Email Hydralift Tech Support at: [email protected]. NEVER Mount a Hydralift platform style lift with trailer hitch type receivers! Receivers are not strong enough alone and allow up and down movement making the install unstable and unsafe!

Find your previous 21” marks made at the rear of the RV. The bottom of the Hydralift 4” frame body can be installed up to 21 inches from the ground allowing for the maximum amount of ground clearance.

This is the maximum installed height, lower is ok but be careful to low and you will drag in and out of driveways. More than 21 inches will reduce the lifting capacity and may cause interference with the Trike and Hydralift Frame.

Fig. 1.6

The maximum and minimum distance between the frame center of brackets. See (figure 1.6)

With the Coach on level ground with the Suspension Aired UP measure from the ground to the back of the RV body 21” & place and place a piece of tape to mark. Locate the best location for the lift’s brackets to be installed. The frame brackets must be installed to the chassis frame either directly or by extending the chassis frame and proper frame reinforcement. This can come from under the frame body or direct from the frame and thru the body.

Fig. 1.1

Frame Extension

Fig. 1.2

Important! The Hydralift Motorcycle Lift is designed to install to the back of the RV not underneath the body.

The assembly plates should always be assembled in the same height and parallel to each other as shown in fig1.3 &1.4

Same height

Same distance from the

sides

Fig. 1.3

Tip: Find a body line at the rear of the RV and level the brackets to the body not the frame.

Make sure you level side to side and front to back. The bracket should be titled slightly towards the RV to visually keep the ramp level during travel.

32” - 36”

Tip: When installing the frame mounting brackets

tilt the bracket a one degree towards the RV.

This will insure once the RV is set to the ground and weight is loaded the lift will not give the illusion the ramp is leaning outward.

The HL platform is set up with a 1 degree pitch towards the RV.

H Max. clearance from

the ground to the saddle Seat is 21 inches

Installing the saddles Horizontal or Vertically take a straight edge and make sure the body is not in the way between the two saddle brackets and adjust as necessary but keeping the saddles as close in as the body will allow.

Hydralift’s comes with two universal installation brackets that provide total versatility with your installation.

There is two ways to install the frame saddles:

Horizontally (figure 1.1) Vertically figure 1.2)

INSTALLING FRAME BRACKETS

IMPORTANT! After tack-welding the saddles STOP!

Measure the bracket width and the Lift make sure

Installing the Lift (continued)

Center the lift to the back of

the vehicle

Fig. 1.7

After installation of the frame brackets to the RV’s frame, the lift can be set on the installed frame saddles. Place the top saddle clamp over the lifts frame and place a couple bolts in place to hold the lift into place, leave the bolts loose. Slide the lift from side to side to center the lift to the RV’s body. (figure 1.7 & 1.8)

INSTALLING THE LIFT

Fig. 1.8

ADDING A REINFORCMENT

Using the RV’s stock trailer hitch receiver you will be adding a support to the bottom of the Hydralift receiver tube to the stock trailer hitch receiver.

Using one of the two receiver extensions included with the HLTL install the receiver extension into the RV’s receiver and to the back or under the HLTL receiver.

Place the receiver extension into the RV’s receiver and to the back or under the HLTL. Place a 5/8 a pin & clip thru to align. After verifying your install is correct weld the receiver extension to the HLTL.

A spacer can be used to connect the receiver extension to the HLTL if needed.

Tip: A 2” ID tube drilled for 5/8 pin & clip can be welded to the HLTL to make a removal custom fit.

ALIGNMENT OF LIFT AND PLATFORM

For most installs normally you will align the Hydralift receiver with the RV’s stock receiver.

The exception to this is with a motorcycle or cargo that the front and rear of the cargo does not align with the RV body once loaded. It maybe that the rear of the cargo may overhang past the back of the RV.

A possible correction would be to shift the HL a couple inches off center moving the lift to the passenger side to balance the width to the RV body.

This is so the Cargo will be centered to the RV body.

Fig. 2.1

Fig. 2.2

Fig. 2.3

With the lift in place and centered to the RV place the reminder of the bolts in the frame mounting saddles, do not tighten.

!!! Attention !!! After 100 miles re-torque the bolts.

(1) Verify the Hydralift is Centered.

(2) Verify the Hydralift flush with the saddle brackets. You can use a jack under the HL receiver to get adjust the lift to the saddle brackets Fig M.

(3) Start to tighten the 8 saddle mounting bolts in a X cross pattern making sure the top saddle if kept flush with the lift’s frame body (Fig M2)

(4) Continue to tighten in X cross pattern until you achieve a Torque of 120 lbs.

ATTENTION: make sure the frame saddles are flush to the Hydralift

frame while tightening.

(You must use a torque wrench not a impact gun)

Installing the hydraulic pump (continued)

Connect the two short hoses (28 inch) and T-fitting to the long 80” hose (figure 13)

INSTALLING THE HYDRAULIC PUMP

With the lift in the down position connect the hydraulic system. Start with the two-way fittings to the hydraulic cylinders with the sealing ring towards the cylinder. (A)

(Careful not to over tighten the fitting. Over tightening will stretch the threads and cause a oil leak)

Connect the two short hoses to the other end of the fitting. (B) (figure 12)

A Fig. 12

B

Find a location within the reach of the hoses that you will be able to access the pump. The pump can be placed into a compartment for additional protection. Secure the pump with bolts to the floor of the compartment or build a mount to support the pump. (Figure 14)

Tip, if there is not a convenient compartment for the pump motor the motor may be mounted under the body in a safe, protected and secure manner.

Fig. 14

Tip: install the remote control connector on the passenger side so the operator can use the remote and release the auto locking arm at the same time.

Tip: You can pre-bleed the hydraulic pump prior to installing the pump into place, this may save time. (See Bleeding Sequence to follow)

Connect the longest hydraulic hose to the top of the pump.(figure 15) A 90deg fitting can be used together with the motor fitting but (not included) - DO NOT ELIMINATE THIS FITTING IT IS PORTED FOR PROPER OIL FLOW -

Fill the Oil Reservoir with hydraulic oil (ATF / Dextron III or Mercon) until full level. You will need to refill after first use.

Hydraulic Bleeding Sequence:

1. Lubricate the grease fittings on the lift (the lift is not pre-lubricated).

2. With the hydraulic line from the “T” to the out port of the motor and the two shorter hoses to the lift’s rams.

3. Fill the reservoir with approximately 2 quarts of Dexron-III / Mercon ATF, fill within 1/2” of top.

4. Raise the rear of the RV up, if the RV is equipped with a leveling system extend the rear jacks, if Air System air it up.

5. Place the lift in the down position, the rams should be completely collapsed. It is best if the lift is all the way down and is still off the ground.

6. Remove the drivers side hose at the ram, Place it in a cup or pump reservoir.

7. Push the up button of the remote control, you will see a blast of air then fluid filling the cup. Release the up button when no air is present. (If you hear only a click and the motor does not run reverse the White and Black wires to the motor solenoid then start over).

8. Reinstall the hose to the D/S ram & tighten.

9. Repeat the procedure for the P/S hose.

10. When the all the air is out of the hoses and out of the cylinders recheck the oil level again when the lift is in the down position, fill the oil reservoir as needed.

11. The lift still in the down position. Push the up button you should hear the motor run rapid then sound as if there is a bit of drag/restriction. While raising the lift slowly, visually look to make sure the lift is moving upward smoothly with no binding and has plenty of clearance to the back of your RV.

12. Raise and lower the lift completely 3 times empty with no load.

13. Safely lower your RV to the ground and load your motorcycle per your Hydralift User Guide instructions.

14. Fill out your registration / warranty card and mail it in. Registration protects you. If there is any updates or modifications or even a recall the registered owners will be notified by the information given the non-registered owners will not.

Installing the hydraulic pump (continued)

Connect 12V power from the battery or battery source using a 80-175 amp fuse to motor with 4 gauge or better wire. The AMG Fuse & Holder can be mounted to the motor plate or closer to your battery connection for cable and motor protection. Attach a ground cable from the Ground terminal on the motor to a good frame ground (if the motor mounting bracket is mounted to the frame you can use the short white wire and bolt the ground to the 1/4” mounting bolt on the mounting plate. Wire in the remote control (figure 16)

The lift now is ready for use. Plug the remote control into the remote connector.

! VERY IMPORTANT !

Lubricate all the grease fittings!

When lubricating rotate lift to get grease all around pins.

Prior to delivery verify the 6 set screws are tight.

There are 2 set screws per side on the main 4” body and 1 on each side to the upper hydraulic ram pin. Fig 17

Hydraulic pump to the mounting plate

Do not modify, disassemble or attempt to adjust this hydraulic pump. The pressure factory set and is not adjustable. Any modifications will void this warranty. Please contact Hydralift Tech Support for any further information.

Always release hydraulic pressure from your Hydralift system prior to traveling by: Pushing the DOWN button and hold it down for 10 seconds, this

releases the hydraulic pressure from the cylinders and lines and drops the auto locking arm onto the locking pin.

Hydralift is now locked and the hydraulic pressure is released from the system.

Installation Instructions: OPTIONAL ON 42A4874 STD model

(01) Before beginning make sure your HL frame saddle brackets are tight and properly installed.

(02) This support add-on can be installed with the Hydralift in the up and locked position. (fig 2).

(03) Support the platform with a jack stand or fork lift (something to prevent the platform from dropping later during the install procedure.

(04) Remove the outer 3/8 bolt from the existing outer lower pivot foot and install the new replacement 3/8 bolt that is 1/2” longer. The bolt needs to be installed from the outside of the shoe so the nut can be installed to the inside area. Pass the bolt thru so the end of the bolt is at the edge of the inside opening , the bolt should not pass thru yet. (fig 3).

(05) Locate the Platform Cross Support. (fig 4). Lift the Platform Cross Support into place so the outer bolt passes thru the outer bolt hole in the Platform Cross Support and push the bolt completely thru and bolt into place. (fig A). Install the second bolt. If your sports adaptor is not pre-drilled you will need to drill a 3/8 hole to align with the Platform Cross Support then install the 3/8 button head bolt and lock nut.

(06) Place the Receiver Extension into the Hydralift receiver (fig C).

(07) Place the Extending Support in the lower receiver extension and then lift into the platform cross support and pin in place and then the lower pin in the receiver extension mount using the supplied pin and link clip. (fig B). Adjust the Extending Support by rotating the lower body enough to fit snug between both the upper an lower mounts. Adjust the locking tab on the Extending Support to prevent the Extending Support from backing off during travel.

(08) Prepare the chain Tensioner: Remove the cotter key and replace with a quick release clip.

(09) Install the Receiver Tensioner Fig 6

(10) Install the Chain Shackle through the 9/16” hole in the Frame Saddle Bracket Fig 7.

(11) Install the Second Chain Shackle through the Safety Chain Loop on the trailer hitch extension receiver extension and Turnbuckle Fig 8.

(12) The platform should now be more stable and is ready for use.

Hauling your motorcycle and towing your car:

The Hydralift HLPS restricts towing to flat towing only

Load your motorcycle/cargo on to the lift and secure accordingly.

Raise the Hydralift and place into the locking position as instructed.

Install the HLPS receiver extension and tethering chains per the HL instructions

Put the Ball Mount / Tow Bar into the receiver per the manufacturers instructions into receiver extension and secure.

Connect your tow car per your tow bar mfg instructions.

When towing with a motorcycle/cargo on the Hydralift you can have No/Zero Tongue Weight.

Not all vehicles are towable in this combination. Before towing any vehicle it is your responsibility to always verify clearance from

the Hydralift Motorcycle Lift to the vehicle you are towing, including turning angles both vertical and horizontal movement. The

Hydralift HLPS comes with a receiver extension Hydralift does not recommend extending or adding to the HLPS supplied receiver

extension. With some tow bars a replacement extended mount maybe available if additional clearances is needed, check with your

tow-bar company.

When towing make wide sweeping turns to prevent any jackknife conditions. If you turn to sharply you will put your tow bar into a

jackknife condition and break or bend the receiver platform/extension or Tow-Bar.

Verify your vehicle to HL clearances before towing any vehicle it is your responsibility to always verify clearance from the

Hydralift Motorcycle Lift to the vehicle you are towing, including turning angles both vertical and horizontal movement.

Note: Only attach and remove the Tow Bar / Ball mount into and from the receiver if lift is in the raised and locked position.

OPTIONAL Installing tail lights on a HLA Adaptor:

You can use magnetic lights or install lights down on the Frame Body of the lift but with some installations you may want to install lights to the HLA Platform. The problem occurs when you lower the lift. The HLA is made to pivot outward thus lengthen the overall length between the lift H-Frame and the Platform. If the wiring for the lights are attached to the Hydralift body then as the lift moves downward the platform pivots

outward and the wiring can be pulled apart.

A simple fix for this situation is to simply add a flat 4-way trailer plug at the HLA rear pivot. Before you lower the lift you simply disconnect the 4-way plug and the wiring will now move freely with the lift's

platform.

Tip use some electrical connector lubrication and the plug will pull apart easily if you forget to disconnect

the plug instead of pulling the wiring apart.

Optional Setting up for Folding Platform

HLA

Over the years we have had many questions and request about can a Hydralift owner fold his Hydralift with a HLA4648

Platform Adaptor installed. Our answer has always been: No, we do not make the HLA4648 to fold for a couple reasons.

Issue #1: The action of the sports adaptor is a pivoting action and when you remove the pulling arm the platform adaptor

can be a guillotine for you fingers and hands, it will not stop and you can not stop it from chopping your fingers/hands off.

Issue #2: The weight and overall size of the platform adaptor and the platform is heavy, cumbersome and awkward to

handle. While trying to lift the platform vertically into a folded position it is very easy to slip, slide, bump your arm or

maybe it is just to heavy to hold onto but once you let go the platform is coming down and it will not matter who’s head or

body part is in the way. You are going to get hurt or even be killed.

Because of the above two reasons Hydralift believes that trying to fold the platform adaptor is a liability that we do not want

to undertake. But if the two issues above do not phase you and you are going to fold your Hydralift Platform Adaptor

anyway because you do not believe that the above issues can ever happen to you I want to remind you that it can happen.

Ok so now you have totally ignored my warning so in an effort to keep you safe and aid in preventing you from injuring

yourself I am going to show you the safest way I know of to do what we tell you not to do.

HLA Setting up for the Optional Folding Kit

With the lift in the up and locked position remove the

pull arm from one side of the I-Bar and let fall straight

down (fig 2A). Drill and tap for a 3/8 bolt, using the

3/8x1 1/2” bolt and std nut bolt in place (Fig 2B).

Loosen the top bolt so the pulling arm and tilt and slide

over the now installed 3/8 bolt with stop nut, tighten

the top bolt (fig 2C). Reinstall the pull arm to the I-

Bar and repeat for the opposing side.

2A 2B 2C

With the Platform Adaptor collapsed (the platform pivot-

ing forward with the top platform arm laying into the

lower shoe) Change the two bolts in the upper and lower

single pivot arm with one about 1/2” longer.

Change the upper and lower pivot arm bolts, the upper

should have a 4” bolt and the bottom should have a 4

1/2” bolt. Use the 3/8”

locking nuts to secure the

bolts in place. After the

bolt and locking nut is in

place install the standard

3/8” nut or wing-nut be-

hind the locking nut for

storage and for use latter
