is pleased to present Interiors, an exhibition of new works by Faris McReynolds and Claudia Parducci. Challenging notions of painting vocabulary, these energetic compositions actively engage the viewer as surface tensions resist passive comprehension.

Faris McReynolds
McReynolds depicts disorganized, neglected domestic spaces rendered in quick decisive strokes. A tangled mass of loosely articulated trappings suggests a life in turmoil, upon which is layered a secondary image plane. Thick, brightly colored abstract forms obscure the represented space, rocketing the viewer into a parallel universe. A calculated intervention that forces the question: is it this or that? (This AND that?) You are drawn to the act of painting, a deliberate mark concealing another. Like The Department of Disinformation, the abstractions obliterate and reveal. The eye desires more, to see it all, and is faced with the utter impossibility, a futile attempt.
Faris McReynolds has exhibited extensively throughout the US and abroad. Recent solo exhibitions include Toxic Mimics at Tim Van Laere Gallery, Antwerp, Belgium and © California/West Coast USA: Faris McReynolds at the Cultuurcen-trum Kortrijk, In Kortrijk, Belgium. He is a graduate of Otis College of Art and Design.

Claudia Parducci
Claudia Parducci presents exterior views of houses on fi re or decimated by storms. Expressive han-dling of paint communicates the dire atmosphere—thick with heat and smoke or still with the aftermath of destruction. Overlaid is a series of shapes—cir-cles and rectangles in red or silver. The repeating symbols are unrecognizable to most—but in truth form Morse code messages like “Tell Me How to Disappear Without A Trace,” “Fucked,” and “Await Verbal Instructions.” Scenes are amplifi ed with this revelation of personal urgency. The landscape becomes psychic terrain; an interior mapping that reveals areas of linguistic collapse. For Parducci, the interest lies in “the space between what is seen and said, and what is heard and observed.”
Claudia Parducci received her BFA and MFA from California Institute of the Arts. She has exhibited at Galleries Lara Tokyo and Eitoeiko, Tokyo, Japan; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tijuana, Mexico; and Nyehaus, New York. Her paintings were the subject of a solo exhibition at the Torrance Art Mu-seum. Both artists live and work in Los Angeles.
