Introduction & Context
• INTERCARGO: International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners
• Representing Bulk Carrier Shipowners (7,000 vessels; 1300 companies and 347 ships added in 2010 so far). 40% of Bulk Carrier seafarers originate from the Philippines
• Coordinates and contributes to the development of Regulation on Safety, Environmental and Technical matters affecting Bulk Carriers.
• Founder of “Round Table”: with BIMCO, ICS/ISF, Intertanko
• Employment regulatory objective – to assist in the development of international legislation which improves safety and which works towards promoting seafaring as a high quality and rewarding career.

• Where we are now – Expanding industry; globalisation, Asian role increasing
• Where we want to be– Improving the safety record of shipping; promoting quality;
• How we want to achieve this– Legislation, enforcement and a quality drive
• STCW and MLC will help – if recognised !
