Imagine the world with no difference between the people. Imagine how we‘d all look the same, know the same things, do best in the same fields. Imagine we‘d lack skills from the same field.

Can you imagine? Dull, right?

„IT'S HARD TO BEAT A PERSON WHO NEVER GIVES UP.“

- Babe Ruth

THEORETICAL FRAME

Peer-to-peerStudents who are involved in ‘group work’ during class have been shown to develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter and increased problem-solving skills. The benefits of group work include engagement and development of team skills.

(Olsen, T., 2011)

Learning• = both an individual and a

social process. = individual level with theinterplay of cognitive, emotional and physicalelements.

Learning environments?• = not static and constantly

pose new challenges to thelearner.

(Medel-Anonuevo, C., Ohsako, T., Mauch, W., 2001)

• a family,• A school• A societal, national and global

context.

Traditionallearning

• You are told what you need to know.

• Memorise the facts.

• Solving problems to illustrate how to use „theory“

Problem-based

learning

• Problem assigned.

• You need to identify what you need to know.

• Learn and apply to solve the problem.

EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM & SEN

Slovenia : Children with SEN have the option to attend:• Mainstream schools and nursery schools

• Schools offering adapted programmes

• Units at mainstream schools that follow the adapted programme

• Units at special institutions.

The majority of children attending special institutions have one or more other deficiencies aside from their main disability.

Please, tell usabout the systemin your country.

Digital learning environments

• Used since the 1970s mainly in the mainstream education. Nevertheless, it is only recently that their contribution in the area of special educational needs has been acknowledged.

• geospatial technologies, mobile search, use of camera, social networking…

• Enrichment of context-aware technologies has enabled students to learn in an environment that integrates learning resources from both the real world and the digital world (Chen & Huang, 2012).

Providing safe and controlledenvironments, motivation, high level of interactivity, immediate feedback...

(Kalyvioti, K., Mikropoulos, T.A. 2014)

Most learning occurs naturally through

activities,contexts, and cultures.

Lave, 1988

M-LEARNING

Survey of over 6,000 primary and secondary school students in Quebec, Canada(Karsenti and Fievez, 2013)

• constant access to information and communication, increased collaboration among both students and students and teachers, increased motivation, improved quality of students’ and teachers’ presentations, more creativity, a greater variety of resources and types of learning material, development of both teachers’ and students’ IT skills, and a more personalised learning experience where students were able to work at their own pace. Practical benefits included a reduction in the use of paper and the ease of organising notes and other learning materials.

• Think about disadvantages of tablet use in school!

„Here and now“ mobile learning is defined as learning that occurs when learners have access to information anytime and anywhere via mobile technologies to perform authentic activities in the context of their learning.

(Martin, F., Ertzberger, J., 2013)

ANALISING AND EVALUATING

• Loose the stereotypes! Teachers have them too.

• What kind of apps to use?Why Scribble (+/-) & Socrative (+/-) & guidelines za apps 4 SEN

• Why (not) integration/inclusion?

• Why Samsung and not Apple (or vice versa?)

• Communication between pupils (increasing ordecreasing?)
