Dear Students Utsav - 2014, The Inter House Student’s Fest will be held on Saturday, May 24,

2014,) in the senior School premises 8.00am – 6.30pm.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. Competition will be conducted on the basis of following categories.

Group A :Classes VI & VII (Inters)

Group B :Classes VIII & IX (Seniors)

Group C :Classes X – XII (Super Seniors)

2. Entry is restricted to one team in group events from each house. There is no restriction for entry in individual events. 3. The order of stage appearance shall be decided 10 minutes before the commencement of the event through a draw of lots. 4. Participants exceeding or not reaching time limit will be disqualified. 5. All Entries should reach to the respective House counsellors on or before 18th May, 2014 7. Participants should be in school uniform for all events except dance events.

8. Schedule of events will be announced later. 9. For all events the decision of the judges will be final and binding on everyone. 10. A Student can participate in a maximum of four individual events. 11. The details are available in the School Calendar and in the School website: www.isdoman.com 12. RULES & CRITERIA:

1. ART Drawing, Painting and Cartoon.

General guidelines: The paper or canvas required shall be provided to the participants. The theme or the topic

shall be given by the judges at the venue. The time allowed shall be 2 hrs. The participants

shall bring material like, pen, pencil, colours. etc. Size of paper provided will be A3 size

Value points:

Drawing: Proportion-shading -neatness-imagination and beauty of the strokes.

Painting: Ability in doing portraits and scenery-Light and shade, imagination perception.

Cartoon: Clarity of the theme-sense of humour-uniqueness -beauty of the strokes.

2. LITERARY ITEMS

General guidelines: Extempore, Elocution, Recitation.

The topics for elocution shall be announced in advance and the topics for Extempore shall be

announced at the venue.

Value points: Gestures- facial expressions- voice modulation-confidence.

In-depth knowledge of the topic -logical arrangement of points- flow of language-

grammatical correctness, appropriate poise-gestures- facial expressions- voice modulation-

confidence.

3. DANCE

Value points:

Solo dance: Costumes, Rhythm, Choreography, Expression & Co-ordination

Bharathanatyam: Vesham, Akara Sushama, Bhava Prakadanam, Mudra, Thalam, Steps.

Group dance: Synchronization, Costumes, Selection of the song, Movement, Rhythm, Overall Presentation.

4. MIME: Music recorded tape or CD only can be used.

Value points: Contemporary value of Themes, Expression, Originality, Clarity, Overall.

5. POSTER DESIGNING

General guidelines: a) There should be one Logo or Emblem created by the participant based on the theme given.

b) The poster design should be of commercial nature.

c) Words or text not compulsory while designing, but if wordings are used, it should be

relevant to the theme.

d) The participants can use any media for designing (water colour, poster colour, fabric

colour, crayons or colour pencil can be used).

e) Cutting and pasting pictures not allowed. The design should be purely done by the

participants themselves.

f) Size of the design will be based on the paper distributed at the time of competition.

g) Only paper will be provided at the time of competition, all other materials necessary for

the designing should be brought by the participants (A3 size Paper).

h) Theme will be announced by the judges.

Value points: Subject composition, Creativity, Visualization, Approach of emblem and logo, Colour

scheme

6. COLLAGE DESIGNING

General guidelines: a) Waste magazine cuttings and newspapers can be used for collage designing.

b) Size of the design will be based on the paper distributed at the time of competition (A3

size paper)

c) If needed water colour can be used for designing

d) Only paper will be provided at the time of competition, all other material necessary for the

designing should be brought by the participants

h) Theme will be announced by the judges.

Value points: Approach to subject, Recycled materials used, Neatness, Creativity, Colour Scheme

7. COMEDY SKIT IN ENGLISH

Theme: Open theme

General guidelines: 1. One team consisting of 5 – 8 participants from each house

2. The duration of the play should be 6 – 10 minutes. This includes introduction

3. Use of ‘pun’, ‘abusive language’ etc are not allowed

4. The skit should be satirical and the team should introduce the skit by announcing its title at

the beginning of the skit.

5. Prompting or use of script will not be allowed. 6. Only positive social themes can be

presented. Care should be taken not to present any religious/ political/ controversial

themes.

7. Props, music (either live or recorded) are permitted. (A common music / sound system will

be provided to the team)

8. The costumes, dialogues and make-up should be appropriate for school competitions and

respect the culture and traditions of the country of residence.

9. Light and Sound: Light adjustments will not be allowed. A few collar microphones will be

given (if needed) to participants for their performance.

Value points:

Execution of comedy, Acting, direction, Execution of theme, Climax & overall impact

8. STREET PLAY

General guidelines: 1. Street Play in English Theme: Open theme

2. The duration of the play should be 6-10 minutes. This includes introduction.

3. A student should introduce the play by stating its title

4. Prompting or use of script will not be allowed

5. Only positive social themes can be presented. Care should be taken not to present any

religious / political/controversial themes.

6. Props, music (either live or recorded) are permitted. (A common music/ sound system will

be provided to the team)

7. The theme, costumes, dialogues and make-up should be appropriate for school

competitions and respect the culture and traditions of the country of residence.

Value points: Presentation (Theme), Flow of language, Expression (Acting), Stage use, Costume

6. ANCHORING (Time 7 minutes): Time limit: 7 minutes

Mode of conduct: A theme will be given one hour before the competition.

General guidelines: 1. Perform with ease with naturality behind a microphone.

2. The subject matter will be based on any event which should be anchored completely (eg:

school annual day, award meet, film show etc.)

3. The participant should be able to speak continuously on the given theme. There should be

no gap in between.

4. Collar mike or cordless mike will be provided.

5. The participant can utilize the entire stage if necessary.

6. Presentation should be entirely in English and within the time limit.

7. Use your facial expressions correctly.

8. Modulate your voice appropriately.

9. Portray your personality at its best.

10. Dress to impress - in the style and colour which suit you. No vulgarity in dress code

allowed.

11. Light Make - up can be used.

12. Get your messages across in a simple/media friendly manner.

Value points: Presentation: (body language, cheerfulness),

Aptness of dress: (style of dressing, colour and pattern),

Flow of language: (voice modulation, accent, language),

Expression: (emotions, actions)

Subject knowledge: (in-depth knowledge of the event, clarity)

7. GROUP WESTERN MUSIC CONCERT:

General guidelines: 1. Songs can be of any pure western English genre.

2. Each team shall have maximum of 8-10 people in which 3 should be singers.

3. The members of the orchestra can also provide vocal support.

4. All the instruments will have to be brought by the participating team.

5. Keyboard used should be played live. No earlier sequencing, feeding allowed.

6. Use of floppy disk, memory card is not allowed.

7. Common group item- no category and no male - female separation.

Value points: 1. Rhythmic control - With reference to instruments used like guitars, drums etc.

2. Interpretation of style - Approach to using unusual chord progressions in the chorus, the

alternation between major and minor chords, the conflict in the lyrics,

3. Technique - Guitar tuning - flat/sharp. Solid guitar playing - developing technique,

Drumming technique, guitar solo with fluid accuracy and articulation. pitching in vocals

flat/sharp.

4. Band Dynamics - Create connection between all band members. Work as a unit and not as

individuals.

5. Voice modulation & pronunciation - Correct pronunciation and voice modulation as the

original song.
