Value propositionResponsibility :Energy efficiency from start to finish.Siemens proved there was enormous savings potential in ore processing at Los Pelambers, a Chilean copper mine. Conveyors at the mine transport ore extracted at an elevation of 3200 meters to the processing facility at an elevation of 1600 meters. The conveyors use state-of-the-art AC motors that require little maintenance and rarely suffer downtime. At the same time, the motors also serve as generators, generating 17 MW of electricity on the down slopes of the 13-km-long track. This not only reduce the mine’s power needs, but also protects the environment by significantly reducing emissions.

Top performance :At one of the world’s largest copper mines, performance is everything.Lumwana Mine, one of the world’s largest copper mines, is currently under construction in Zambia. Equinox Minerals plans to extract 20 million tons of copper ore per year here. However, this assumes maximum equipment availability. The solution? Low-friction three phase engines for 27 trucks and gearless drives for the grinding mills-proven Siemens technologies for minimal wear, reduce maintenance cost and high availability. A truck-trolley combination provides greater throughput with lower fuel consumption. The “frozen shaker” systems, which breaks up solidified charge and loosens it from the mill body, minimize downtime and maximizes availability. And all mine operations are monitored in real time, thanks to powerful fiber-optic network from Siemens.

Innovation :A new flotation cell from Siemens provides higher material yield at a lower cost.The MInera Los Pelambers copper mine in Chile will use an innovative procedure to increase the material yield in ore processing.Within the framework of pilot project, a newly developed flotation cell for separating molybdenum was tested. The Siemens solution combines a pneumatic spray-in principle with a column method. An agitating apparatus as used in conventional cells is not needed. The intention is that, compare to conventional flotation cells, the new system should feature the special floatability of very fine particulate materials, the possibility of substantially higher concentration, low gas requirements and low power consumption.

The fire control panel can be used as a stand-alone version or networked. The control panel can be programmed with a user- friendly engineering tool (SintesoWorks) to create a system with great versatility. Up to 32 stations such as fire control panels and fire terminals (in any arrangement) can be connected in one network.
