The communication processor module (CPM) provides for the emulation of a variety of commonly used communication protocols. Inclusion of this optional feature is denoted by the addition of the suffur “-V1” to the pad-mounted gear catalog number. Instructions for operation of the communication and control equipment group are provided in S&C Instruc- tion Sheet. 660-505. 1 CONFIGURING THE COMMUNICATION PROCESSOR MODULE I Configuring the communication processor module specifies how it is to operate. I INTRODUCTION I

The equipment covered by this publication must be selected for a specific application and it must be installed, operated, and maintained by qualified persons who are thoroughly trained and who understand any hazards that may be involved. This publication is written only for such qualified persons and is not intended to be a substitute for adequate training and experience in safety procedures for this type of equipment.

This publication provides instructions for configuring the optional communication processor module for the

WESDACs DART (Distribution Automation Remote Terminal) by Westronic, Inc., furnished in the communi- cation and control equipment group of S&C Remote Supervisory Pad-Mounted Gear. The communication processor module (CPM) provides for the emulation of a variety of commonly used communication protocols. Inclusion of this optional feature is denoted by the addition of the suffur “-V1” to the pad-mounted gear catalog number.

Instructions for operation of the communication and control equipment group are provided in S&C Instruc- tion Sheet. 660-505.

1 CONFIGURING THE COMMUNICATION PROCESSOR MODULE I Configuring the communication processor module specifies how it is to operate. This procedure uses the DBOICPM Configuration System and involves defining, for this specific installation, the following: 0 The CPM address. 0 Operating parameters of the communication channel

Installing and Running the Configuration System To install the DBOICPM Configuration System, you’ll need the following:

An IBM PC or compatible computer (XT or higher), or portable, with hard disk drive. The DBOICPM Configuration System Software, which is provided on two 3.5-inch diskettes. The CPM Application Configuration Files, which are also provided on a 3.5-inch diskette. A DART maintenance cable. This cable is available from S&C (see “ACCESSORIES” table in Appendix A of S&C Instruction Sheet 660-505) or, alternately,

If you have not already done so, make a backup copy of each of the D2OICPM Configuration System Software diskettes as well as the CPM Application Configuration Files diskette. Use these backup copies to configure the communication processor module. Store the original diskettes in a safe place.

In the steps which follow, you’ll see a number of menu selections which have no bearing on the CPM configuration procedure, including files relating to WESMAINT. Please do not a lW any of these files!

If you accidentally make any changes to a file and are not sure you be corrected the mor . . . Stop! Make a new backup copy of the CPM Application Configuration Files diskette f rom the original diskette and start over!

In certain personal computers the communication port signal ground is internally connected to the chassis ground to reduce electromagnetic inte!fer- ence (EMI). If such a computer is used to c.onfigure the CPM in a transceiver-equipped communication and control equipment group, a ground loop will be created which will short-circuit one of the battery packs.

To avoid short-circuiting the battery pack in the event your computer has this internal connection, temporarily disconnect the power connector of the transceiver.

After the CPM has been configured, reconnect the power connector of the transceiver.

Step 1 To run the DZOICPM Configuration System: 1. Place the power switch on the DART RTU in the

“OFF position. See S&C Instruction Sheet 660-505, Figure 2.

2. If high voltage is not available to the pad-mounted gear: Place the power switch on the battery charger in the “OFF” position. See S&C Instruction Sheet 660-505, Figure 6. Connect a n isolated 120-volt ac source to the terminals on the battery charger marked “EXT/AC.” Now place the power switch on the battery charger in the “ O N position.

3. Place the battery-charger input selector switch in the “VOLTAGE SENSOR SOURCE” position if high voltage is available to the pad-mounted gear, or in the “EXTERNAL SOURCE” position if high voltage is not available to the pad-mounted gear.

4. Connect the maintenance cable between the communication port of the computer and the “CPM MAINTENANCE PORT” of the DART RTU.

5. Place the power switch on the DART RTU in the “ON” position.

6. Turn on the computer, and insert the DZO/CPM Configuration System Software diskette #1 into the floppy drive “A” (or “B”). Type a: (or b) and press <ENTER>. At the A\> (or B\>) prompt, type install and press <ENTER>.

7. Following directions furnished on the screen, copy the DZO/CPM Configuration System Software to your hard drive, C. At the appropriate time, you will be directed to insert diskette #2 into the floppy drive.

8. After the D20/CPM Configuration System Software has been copied to the hard drive, insert the CPM Application Configuration Files diskette in the floppy drive.

9. At the C:\> prompt, type config and press <ENTER>.

The “CrossTalk” title screen will appear briefly. The “Main Menu” screen will then appear as shown below.

If you’re using a “B” floppy drive, all references to drive A should instead say B.

You’ll need to press <ENTER> after each change to step to the next parameter. Note that in this example, a computer with a color monitor was used, so “Color Monitor:” was changed from No to Yes to take advantage of the color display.

A second D20M> prompt will appear. At this prompt, type f 200000 300000 00 and press <ENTER>. This action will clear all processor registers. Ignore the error message that may appear.

A third D20M> prompt will appear. At this prompt, press <Fl>.
